24-09-2024Great product, I like that they came with a dummy as unlike other ones. I ordered two of them, and they both could be pulled apart at the bottom were the press tab wasnt engaging correctly. A little sanding and the latches work nicely now. Update: Fire danger unless modified. The metal contact that runs in the center battery channel can loosen up on its own and touch one of the contacts that sends power to the radio, when this happens the metal gets red hot, the plastic starts melting, then Im sure a fire follows but I had the case open when this happened and I just shook the batteries out very quickly to avoid further damage. I am still keeping this product at 4 stars since there are very few options to use AA batteries with a baofeng, it just needs a little modification. I used some high temperature RTV silicone sealant to keep the metal tab from coming out and contacting the metal above it. Its not perfect but it can no longer catch fire. You can see in the photo where the metal heated up where it is discolored on the right radio contact, and the silicone seal i used to keep the piece from touching it again.

Greater than one weekAs previous reviewers have stated, the top center battery terminal can easily come loose, touch another terminal and short out the pack. *I have not experienced this.* Although I have taken the precaution advised and glued the top center battery terminal in place so that it does not wiggle free. See photos. After this quick fix, it works safely and as expected. With 6x NiMH the battery life is considerably longer (2-3 times) than the 1100 mAhr Li-ion supplied with the Baofeng UV-5R. Another gripe about this product is how loose the snap mechanism is securing clam shell design together. I can pull the two apart pretty easily without hitting the release button. And also... please please please use the included dummy battery when using alkaline (1.5V) AA batteries!! If 6 alkalines are used, the radio will intentionally not work due to the higher total voltage being outside the operating range. Many people have given this product bad reviews because they didnt read.

> 3 dayWas exactly as expected

> 3 dayThe battery increases the length of the radio. Replacing it with the stock battery makes the radio compact.

> 3 dayThis battery did not come with a charging cable. I assumed it would but it did not. It can be charged from the charging cradle that came with the ht radio. However, other extended life batteries like this one come with thier own charging cables.

> 3 dayExactly what it says; takes the place of the battery, and lets you plug into the 12v outlet. Great for in-car radio use, especially paired with a hand mic and external antenna. Lets me run APRS through my uv5r (with an external device) all I want on the move without worrying about the battery running out.

> 3 dayVery misleading product pic. It shows two batteries in the ad for this product. My fault, I should have read what comes in the box I would not have made this purchase. Another add for 30.00 for two is what I would or now have to buy

> 3 dayCant complain about the price, i will see how it works, i will say its a bad fit in the required charger, the battery is about 1/4 inch too thin to make good contact with the charger terminals, i had to fold up cardboard and put in front of the battery to make contact with the charging terminals. It would be a good idea to make the battery thicker so it can be charged in the required charger or provide a shim to place in the charger to make positive contact with charging terminals.

25-09-2024This did not work initially. There is not info on which position should contain the dummy battery. I guessed it did not matter and that was true. One of the contact points for the battery was bent out of position, so the unit did not work. When I figured it out and bent it back, everything worked. It appears to be made of cheap plastic. Not sure how long it will hold up.
