Greater than one weekBought a cheaper TENQ one and had to return it. It did not provide enough power on transmit and the radio would turn off and back on when key was released.(7.4V or so idle) This is the one by Baofeng and is designed differently. The pcb is in the DC jack portion not the battery adapter portion. It provides 8.5V which is clearly what the radio needs. The batteries and this unit state 7.4V but they all put out about 8.5V. I will be replacing the coiled cord which I really dislike and putting in a long straight cord. I have included a collage of a tear down of this unit which will hopefully be of some use. UPDATE: 2/19/15 The radio began rebooting on tx on 2m. There was a rattling sound from the plug. I opened it to find a large diode loose. It was either very cold solder joints or the part got hot enough to desolder itself from the pcb. I was able to fix it easily but def not worth the orig 4 star review I gave it. If I can find a way to add or update the pics I will add photo of the issue.

> 3 dayThe originally battery might last a day on the trails, but if I was out there for more than that, I had no way to charge up the battery. This battery has gotten me through a whole weekend, AND with the usb charging cable, I can charge while Im on the trial if I need to! No more worrying about the radio anymore!

28-09-2024When i initially recieved this product, and placed 6x fully charged batteries in, the radio would not turn on at all. Perplexed, i took a look inside and found that the top right inside connector plate for the positive side of the aa battery was not making positive contact. i used a toothpick and was able to bend the plate so it would be able to make contact and then the pack has worked well since.

> 3 dayI am not sure if this battery is supposed to have a rubber plug/grommet for the hole in which you would plug the charging cable, when not in use.....but it did not come with one. Since these radios are usually used in outdoor and often rugged environments, it seems that protection from the elements would have been a consideration. I really wanted to give this product a great review, but because of the either missing or not previously thought of rubber plug for the charging port, I just can’t.

> 3 dayWith this carrier you can use Rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride, and Nickel Cadmium cells in your UV5R series radio including the BF-F8HP. With the dummy cell (Yes, it is included) you can also use 1.5V lithium, Alkaline, or even Zinc Carbon cells. You will not be able to use Nickel Zinc as the voltage is still too high with the dummy. There is a short circuit hazard with the middle column of cells. This hazard is easy to avoid, simply make sure that you install the center column of cells first. With this in mind, if you do bend the contact to the point that it briefly makes contact with the one it isnt supposed to, you have no short circuit to complete.

> 3 dayFirst, it works as expected in that it replaces your battery (it is a battery eliminator not a charger) and powers your radio from a 12 volt accessory socket. A couple poor design features to be aware of though: The cord is a coiled cord, but the coils are very stiff. At rest it is about 2 feet long, but if you try to stretch it out, by the time you get to three feet it is pulling out of the car socket. I would say that for most people, they would have a lot of trouble talking on the radio with that limitation combined with the fact that at that length you are playing tug of war if it stays plugged in. Also the cord comes out of the bottom of the battery adapter, which means you cannot stand your radio up. Not a concern for car use but in emergency use where you might have to be on 12 volt power indoors, you cannot stand up your radio. This means your antenna is operating at well below maximum efficiency. It seems that just a little forethought and beta testing of this product would have made it a MUCH better product with little or no change to cost.

> 3 dayExactly what it says; takes the place of the battery, and lets you plug into the 12v outlet. Great for in-car radio use, especially paired with a hand mic and external antenna. Lets me run APRS through my uv5r (with an external device) all I want on the move without worrying about the battery running out.
