> 24 hourGot this unit plus a couple of extra batteries and a better antenna for my initial foray into the world of amateur radio. Setup was easy using CHIRP software - got 127 channels programmed right outta the gate. Am still learning and discovering all the features of this radio as I study for my HAM license, but initial impression is positive. Follow up email from the folks at BaoFeng is reassuring. Buy with confidence.

> 24 hourIn order for this 3800mah battery to properly fit the UV5RA a slight modification is necessary. Many videos say something about grinding inside the battery. Was not the case for me. A hot knife needed to cut the crescent shaped scallop off face of ext battery and it will now click perfectly into place on the UV5RA.

> 24 hourWorks just fine but didnt exactly fit the radio. Theres a thin plastic lip that has to be trimmed off along the bottom of the cavity where the radio fits in that has to be trimmed off. Why they couldnt just make it to fit the radio to begin with I dont know. Once this is trimmed off, it fits perfectly.

> 24 hourNot much to say about this. Its a perfect fit for my F8HP. It means I have a way to get power to the radio even if the power is gone. Im not planning to use this instead of the regular battery, but in addition to it for any sort of emergency (or while traveling with the radio so I dont have to carry the charger too, Im lazy). Im quite pleased with the fit and the ease of replacing the batteries. This is a great addition to a great radio. ADDITION: I also got the car charger recently. It works really well. Fits precisely and generates exactly the right power. It does feel a little cheap and fragile. That makes me worry about it banging around in the car. Overall, Im quite pleased. I added this to the review because Amazon thinks these are the same product.

> 24 hourI would have given this a five but I had to remove the long bus that runs from the top to the bottom of the battery case and bend the ends just past a true 90* angle so as to get the bus to lay in the case better. Then I had to use some clear silicone caulk to insulate that same bus so it would not rise up out of its slot and cause a short as some other reviewers have experienced. This case is a very complicated part to mold and Im very impressed with the quality of it. It fit my UV5R+ perfectly. If you choose to go the route I did please use some very tight fitting needle nose pliers so you can get the accuracy needed.

> 24 hourCant speak for the performance yet - Ill update that later. For now I just wanted to easy any concerns users of the Baofeng BF-F8HP: these do fit, though they are VERY tight. Im perfectly fine with a tight fit over a loose fit. You have to push the pack in very hard to get it to click, and it may take several tries to get used to it. Getting them off is slightly more difficult, but again, if it means a real good tight fit I dont mind so much. I do highly recommend removing the antenna before taking it off, as its too easy to want to pull on the antenna for leverage, and thats a very bad idea. No modification necessary for the Baofeng BF-F8HP on either of the two I own. The fit is VERY tight, but thats a good thing.

> 24 hourI love the added length this gives the radio, makes it holdable for people with big hands! The added battery life is a bonus too. It will charge in the standard table top docks but be aware if you want to use the built in charging port on the battery, you will need the smaller 2.5mm plug, it does not use the same power connector as the desk top charger.

> 24 hourSo far so good, charged this fully 8 days ago and it still has one battery bar left. It’s in use as a listening-only scanner most of the day (to my wife’s great dismay) only turned off consistently overnight. I also bought the little USB plug that charges this directly and it seems to work but I’ve only charged the battery once via dock as the beginning of the charge/discharge/repeat process. So far so good.
