It turns out I dont hate ironing; I just hate my ironing board. Until a month ago, Id never heard of a wool pressing mat, but if I had, I would have considered it an absolutely necessary sewing tool. It sits at the end of my cutting table, with a low profile, and when I need to iron I simply walk to the end of the table and press my fabric. I bought the larger one because I wanted to be able to press dress pieces, and Im glad I did. I havent had any issues with sticking (I saw one review mention that and it made me nervous, but I dont even feel a hint of that), and while there is a slight smell when used for a long period, its barely noticeable and not at all unpleasant. That being said, this thing could smell like a barn and Id still prefer it to my clanky, horrible, giant ironing board. I do wish it had some kind of grippers on the bottom because it does slide around my slick wood table a bit, but its not a big deal and this way its usable on both sides and theres nothing to melt. Other than that, the only thing I wish is that Id known about this years ago.

A smaller surface for small pressing jobs. Works great on a table top.

So far this has been a welcome addition to my adventures with quilting. Small, but so handy. Just large enough of me to set up and press squares instead of setting up my huge ironing board. So glad I purchased it.

I love the wool ironing pads. I’m a quilter and deal with small (sometimes really tiny) pieces of fabric that need to be pressed quickly. Hardly worth getting out the ginormous ironing board and iron. So imagine my surprise when I found these wool ironing pads. They are the perfect size for small quick jobs. I purchased my first one about 3 years ago, it’s 13” x 18”, and 3/4” thick. I used it constantly. So much so that decided I need a new one. So I purchased this one. However, it’s not as durable as my old one or as dense. It measures 13.5” x 17” and 1/2 thick. Plus you can barely stick a straight pin into the old one because it’s so dense. Whereas a straight pin sticks in easily. I like the new one, but since I use my desk to place the pad on, I’m uneasy about using the new one by itself. I don’t think it’s thick or dense enough to use alone so I place it on top of the old one when I need to iron something, then under the old one to keep it from getting worn like the old one. Overall, I’m ok with the new one. But you might want to consider using 2 just to make sure the heat of the iron will not penetrate through to the surface you’re using. Just a word to users, in case you don’t already know, do NOT use your self-healing cutting board under the ironing pad. The heat from your iron will absolutely damage your cutting board and cannot be repaired. I recommend this wool pad, but consider buying 2 for the extra protection.

Product does exactly what it was advertised to do. I have used it for two quilt projects so far and am more than pleased with this mat. The quality is as expected and the service was excellent. Thank you. NOTE I did purchase a similar mat from somewhere else and was not happy with it. Besides coming a month late the mat smelled terrible when the hot iron was used and the smell transferred to the material. Glad I tried a different supplier.

I like that the wool ironing mat is portable and easily used on any hard surface. It is convenient to use in general. I didnt find that it did anything superior though. For instance, in the places where I had taken out stitches to correct a mistake, the old needle holes did not iron out when using the mat. The instructions said not to use steam, so I didnt. However, when I used a regular ironing board with a steam setting, the old needle paths ironed out. I am not going to return it because it is very portable. But beyond that, I am not impressed!

LOOKS great. A quilting and embroidery friend swears by hers. It is a really good size for me. I like the New Zealand Wool - after reading up on it - not smelly. I did see there is one that is even a bigger size 24x60 - could do a good portion of a quilt. I will check that size out I have had experience using this one for a time. You cannot use the wool with steam - it holds the water. But I am good with that.

I was surprised at how well my quilt blocks were pressed after using this mat. The seams were much crisper and they stayed put, no sliding when ironing. The mat gets very hot and presses from underneath the block very well. Had to learn to not burn my fingers when picking the blocks up. The only thing that wasnt great was when using steam, underneath the mat was fairly wet. The mat dried out just fine, but be careful what you use it on, as it would damage a wood surface.

I could hardly wait to try out my 100% New Zealand Wool Pressing Mat. I was NOT DISAPPOINTED! My 1/2 square triangle units pressed so flat and crisp that I did not need to use my tailors clap, as I usually do to get a good, flat seam on my quilt blocks. The small unit did not move on the pressing mat, and I got a very flat press on the diagonal seam. I was using a little steam, but found that I get just as good a press without steam. There is a slight odor, not uncommon for wet wool, that seems to diminish with use. Thank you for this product. I am beyond pleased.
