This mat is just as described. Full 1/2 thick. Some reviews I read said some wool mats smelled bad. This one has no bad odors. Received quickly.

I really love the nice, crisp press I get when using this product. I have the 17 x 24 size, and it easily accommodates most of my sewing and quilting needs when piecing and working on small projects. The only minor complaint I have is that it sheds quite a bit a first, leaving little gray fuzzy bits on some pieces, but Im assuming that will lessen over time and as I use it more. I am very satisfied overall.

I bought this wool mat to replace a Steady Betty I purchased to press quilt-as-you-go blocks. I was not happy with the foam surface on the Steady Betty and while it is great to hold quilt block pieces to see how they work together, the foam is such that it is not suitable as an ironing surface (we felt it might melt). I love this small 13.5 square wool mat. It is perfect to use with my miniature iron to press quilt-as-as you blocks.

I love this mat. I can’t imagine how I did without it for so long. Making my quilt blocks now have a more professional look. Quilters if you don’t have one, get one soon. You might want a larger one, but I have a restricted space so this one is great for me.

I found out about wool pressing pads at a quilting retreat recently. Reading reviews it seems like there is a wide variety of quality on the market. After using mine I was very impressed with how helpful it is in pressing my quilt blocks. It retains heat and is very flat and even. I used a little steam on mine (on top of a thermo cool fabric to protect my table) and had no issue with it transferring through or with wet sheep smell. That said I didn’t use a ton of steam or for very long. I would definitely recommend this brand mat.

This is the first time I have used a wool mat and I am very glad I chose this one. Of course when you use steam, it is going to smell a bit, but it just smells like wool - not any different than steaming wool clothes. When used with a wooden clapper, seams are flat, flat, flat! Love it.

Im using the mat on a small printer table next to my sewing machine. It fits perfectly. I dont have to worry about harming the top of the printer table because the pad is very thick. Normally I would have my large ironing board set up and in everyones way when Im piecing. Not anymore. I use a small, not extremely hot iron and the mat seems to reflect back the heat. Im very satisfied with the results. The mat is odor free; delivery was very prompt. It came in a hard box so there was no chance of the delivery person folding/rolling the mat.

I have a mall table to press my quilt blocks on and this mat just fits perfectly. It doesnt slide around and I get a good crisp press. I use steam and I have noticed a wool smell from the heat but it isnt very strong as some have said and it isnt offensive. I would highly recommend these mats even tho they are a little pricey. Worth the money. Ive tried to use a couple of different pressing mats and prefer this one.

This is the perfect wool ironing mat to have next to your sewing machine so that you can easily iron each of your blocks as you sew it together. I purchased the large one but even the smallest one would help you get the best press. The wool is smooth and the seams were easy to press flat. Also it was shipped with care. They created a box large enough so that my mat was not folded nor bent and fast delivery. Thank you for helping make my quilting easier.

I use this wool mat to press my seams when I quilt. At first, I thought the mat was leaving small strands of wool on my fabric (like link) but after using it several times, that went away. Maybe the heat of the iron took care of the problem. Now I use it all the time for pressing crisp seams. I recommend the large size if it will fit on your ironing board or other surface. More space to lay out multiple block.
