LG UltraGear QHD 27-Inch Gaming Monitor 27GL850-B, Nano IPS 1ms (GtG) with HDR 10 Compatibility and NVIDIA G-SYNC, 144Hz, Black

I have about 139 hours on this monitor as of now. The first 20 were great. No issues. Really happy with it as its a MASSIVE step up from my 4k TVs latency/framerate. I built a desk specifically for gaming and it really has helped having a very fast monitor like this. But after 20 hours It started flicking black randomly. I have no idea what is causing it, its just totally random. It might flicker one day, or it might not flicker for two days. I suspect it might be G-SYNC but hard to tell if its that or the monitor. When it does flicker it puts my games in the background which could get me killed in certain games as it not only lowers the framerate but screws with the window. Im in the process of trying a different Display port cable, then DDU and driver reinstall. If its this monitor then Its getting 1 star and I cant return it. I have to go though a headache of a RMA and I dont expect that to go smoothly. Ill try to update this in the next month or two.

I purchased used from the Amazon warehouse. The monitor arrived in retail packaging that had been taped back up. All of the contents were there. All manufacturers shipping foam and protection was there. The only problem was the speakers in the monitor are dead. The product was listed as in good used condition. Thats why I took one star off. Item was not as described.

The monitor is good. Good picture quality, good color accuracy, good viewing angles, good refresh rate, and its easy to configure, with two custom profiles and a number of built-in profile. The gray-to-gray (G2G) response time is pretty good (though not 1 ms as advertised unless you want lots of reverse ghosting artifacts). The stand is also quite good, and if you dont like it, you can use your own. I love this thing! But it could be better. There is only one DisplayPort input. Normally this wouldnt be a big deal, but the monitors refresh rate is capped at 100 Hz (1440p) or 120 Hz (1080p) when using HDMI if you have FreeSync on. At the very least, you can disable FreeSync on the HDMI ports and just have DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync on, since the variable refresh rate setting is per-input rather than per-profile. Also, the audio quality that comes through the built-in 3.5 mm headphone jack is awful. Everything sounds like extremely compressed MP3, and even someones with not-the-greatest-hearing like me could tell this. Many devices have built-in audio jacks (most computers, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), but some dont (PS5, DVD players, etc.) and rely on the HDMI audio. Either way, having to unplug and plug in things when switching inputs can be annoying. All-in-all, its a REALLY good monitor, but these caveats make it hard to recommend to just anyone. Of course, some of these caveats may not even apply to everyone. If you just have just one PC connected to it, you use DisplayPort, and you plug your speakers into the PC rather than the monitor, this monitor will easily be a 5/5 experience for you. Its a very high quality display, and LG did an great job with it. But if you have to use several devices, its a 3/5 experience.

This monitor has been great for gaming. There are two quirks I would note, though. First, the monitor doesnt have any speakers, but my Windows 11 wants to send sound to it anyway. Im not sure if thats a monitor issue, or a Windows 11 issue, but once I shifted the settings to my headset, things work great. The other quirk is that the monitor is very bright. Like, almost too bright, even when I have brightness turned way down. I cant play with it in a dark room because it is too hard on my eyes in that setting. But others might like that brightness more than I do.

You do need display port to fully take advantage of the capabilities of this monitor, however it comes with both a mid quality hdmi and display port cable so its ready to go out the box. A display port, 2 hdmi, and a dvi port are the slots available here, so plenty of room for other devices. It auto detects devices very well that are on too so no manual switching either. Very bright and clear colors at any brightness, I experience almost zero glare from a bright window behind me at full brightness. Even direct sunlight the glare is not too bad. I experienced colors very slightly being off and slight ghosting out the box on initial set up using display port, however setting display port version to 1.2 instead of 1.4 fixed this issue. Another reviewer reported this issue also, not sure what is really changing here. Possibly the cord provided but not sure, this monitor cant use any of the features that DP version 1.4 has, so 1.2 is plenty adaquate. To set this its located deep in the settings somewhere, good luck. The many settings are moderately confusing to navigate as some settings are only available on some modes with pleny of sub menus, however game modes allow the most settings and you can make it perfect as you see fit. The response time is very impressive, I turned it down to low response to 100% eliminate any ghosting or visual artifacts and it is still very fast. Blows my 8 year old LCD gaming monitor out the water in every metric. The software G sync works great with my RTX 2080 super, however the frame rate is 5-15 fps lower than it would be with conventional V sync. So if you are pushing the limits of your graphics card you may experience some studdering or delay. Above 75 fps the monitor was smooth and fast. If you cannot maintain 75+ fps at 1440p then I would not intend on using G sync or lower the graphics settings, as it is software G sync and does have some processing to do so the higher the average framerate the better. Doing full rgb colors reduced the max from 144hz to 120hz, but makes it look that much better. If I get into a game that my 2080 decimates I may change this back. I sucessfully overclocked to 165 hz without issues (set custom resolution in Nvidia control panel with a higher hz), however I dont see the need as its so smooth already at 144hz there is little difference going higher. My experience is it doesnt really look smoother than 144hz until you get into the 200s, which unfortunately this monitor cannot do. If you have a great graphics card that cant quite do 4K, get this monitor you wont regret it. Easily the best in this price range.

I upgraded from an Acer ED273 which I had since August 2019. I liked that old monitor well enough - except it had a backlight flickering problem I could never fix. After plenty of research I decided this one was the adequate upgraded replacment. I ordered it as used - like new from a seller, and got what Im pretty sure was more or less a brand-new monitor, with a very good panel at that. Even lighting and very little backlight bleed - a HUGE improvement from the Acer one. I would of course expect that at roughly $150-$200 more expensive. The colors are beautiful - though the reds are somewhat oversaturated. This monitor does tend to overblow most colors, but doesnt really bother me much. Its only red that looks nutso to me! The 144hz refresh rate and 4k resolution are a treat to the eyes. It was easy to set up and feels sturdy - though I am using a third party desk mount arm rather than the stock stand. The VESA mount seems strong and I looove the control stick for navigating the settings menu - the old Acer one had an INFURIATING control stick that, on several occasions, left me wanting to bite the monitor clean in half. I cant even describe how beautiful and responsive this one is compared to the garbage crap on the Acer ED273! I will be updating this review as monitor use progresses over the years to keep up with wear-and-tear and overall lifetime of the device. I know, initially, I am STOKED to have this beauty! I can hardly wait to really sit and play games on it - I only tested some 4k gameplay video in the mean time, which looked amazing!

Nice monitor. Crisp, clean images. But a little too prone to finger smudges. And I feel like I rarely ever touch it!

This is a review after 1 year of usage. Provided cable is still functional although when i first plugged it i was worried it would break at some point so be gentle with it. The monitor is 1440p 144hz so if you are buying this make sure you have a capable graphics card able to drive it. I personally have an RTX 3070 while it runs fine this card has 8GB of VRAM and it is starting to be affected negatively in some games. VRAM usage is quite high and I would say you need more than 8GB VRAM if you plan on playing latest triple A games and potentially more games in the future. Older games will function fine with this little VRAM. Nano IPS is a great panel from LG. The monitor does get a little warmer when gaming at higher refresh rate but doesnt seem to be negatively affected by it. Brightness is great and the included stand mount. Coming from cheaper monitors I never thought having such flexibility with a decent mount would be that nice. Out of the box the Windows UI display on this monitor is rather small personally it was too small for my liking so i increased the scale to 150% it enlarged everything on the screen. I did have trouble with doing this early stages of windows 11 and to be specific GTA V wasnt handling the the scaling that well but now its completely fixed. If you run into issues with specific case scenario you can easily revert back to the default scaling which is 100% Nothing wrong with it overall but if you are buying for an HDR experience turn away from this model. The implementation of this model is better never touched.

This monitor is pretty dang great and for the price of 250 I paid for it on Amazon day was a steal.. I use it for my ps5.. some games on ps5 give you a crispy downscale to 1440p image and other games can actually look terrible and grainy at times I dont know why tho.. ps5 native 1440p support is coming in the next firmware up hopefully.. some select ps5 users is playing beta mode for the native 1440p as we speak.. I got this monitor because I want to play everything at 60fps and to do that most likely all games will run at 1440p at 60 so Ill hold off on a 4k monitor for now... note i also been having some flicker issues playing fps games sometimes but its not worth returning I simply turn the monitor on and off them the problem is gone.. had the monitor 2 months and thats happened 7 times... I recommend this monitor if your a console player that wants that 60 to 120 fps at 1440p... one more thing the brightness isnt the best but it still a great monitor..
