LG UltraGear QHD 27-Inch Gaming Monitor 27GL850-B, Nano IPS 1ms (GtG) with HDR 10 Compatibility and NVIDIA G-SYNC, 144Hz, Black

I upgraded from an Acer ED273 which I had since August 2019. I liked that old monitor well enough - except it had a backlight flickering problem I could never fix. After plenty of research I decided this one was the adequate upgraded replacment. I ordered it as used - like new from a seller, and got what Im pretty sure was more or less a brand-new monitor, with a very good panel at that. Even lighting and very little backlight bleed - a HUGE improvement from the Acer one. I would of course expect that at roughly $150-$200 more expensive. The colors are beautiful - though the reds are somewhat oversaturated. This monitor does tend to overblow most colors, but doesnt really bother me much. Its only red that looks nutso to me! The 144hz refresh rate and 4k resolution are a treat to the eyes. It was easy to set up and feels sturdy - though I am using a third party desk mount arm rather than the stock stand. The VESA mount seems strong and I looove the control stick for navigating the settings menu - the old Acer one had an INFURIATING control stick that, on several occasions, left me wanting to bite the monitor clean in half. I cant even describe how beautiful and responsive this one is compared to the garbage crap on the Acer ED273! I will be updating this review as monitor use progresses over the years to keep up with wear-and-tear and overall lifetime of the device. I know, initially, I am STOKED to have this beauty! I can hardly wait to really sit and play games on it - I only tested some 4k gameplay video in the mean time, which looked amazing!

I bought this with the idea that I would easily have a easy advantage over other consumers of a different product due to lower resolution and low fps, and sure enough, I was wrong but at least the visuals look nice and the gaming experience has now become more enjoyable due to the upgraded hertz on the monitor. Warzone 2 is even more lit now. I’m better than the majority, thank you. Minecraft also runs amazing with mods.

Ive only had this monitor for about a week but I feel like I have had enough time to make up my mind about it. I came from the VG248QE(TN panel) and immediately I could tell that the colors were a vibrant beauty and not at all saturated... except for the color red which is a little bit redder than it should be and thus caused Caucasians to have a little pink tint on them( you could say they are colored now, so its a welcome change of pace). The change from 1080p to 1440p was also something instantly noticeable. Free sync works great with my AMD GPU. HDR Effect feels like my eyes are getting attacked by a box of crayons, it not bright enough and it doesnt have local dimming so steer away from this if you want True HDR. As a competitive gamer I can without a shadow of a doubt say that the 144hz is giving me a gaming edge in Solitaire and Minesweeper. Unlike other gaming monitors this one didnt go with the disgusting tootsie roll RGB gamer aesthetic. Build feels and looks premium. The stand is metal and the monitor is plastic, but it feels like quality plastic, if you know what I mean. NSFW content looks great too but youll have to shill out cash to see content in 1440p. All in all, great monitor I recommend it!

i mean its LG come on did you think it was going to suck. it has a good refresh rate. it only really like to be at its designed size or youll get the its not a recommended refresh rate or size warning showing up on the screen, but other than that its Lg bro its not a g7 Samsung but it does a GREAT JOB for a 27 montior

EDIT: I bought a second 27GL850-B manufactured 7/2021 as used like new (it was brand new in a damaged box, 0 hours power on time). Its great to have matching monitors for work, and it says a lot about the quality of this panel that I bought a second. Pros: Well reviewed panel, Freesync works on Nvidia/Intel now + low framerate compensation means the display doesnt tear below 48 FPS, ICC profiles exist for download (TFT Central), only needed minor tweaks out of box to make the display really pop, panel supports 10 bit, display is light - perfect for VESA mounting. Backlight bleed is minimal, very pleasant surprise. Movies and Youtube look fine on this gaming display, just a shame that 1440p/4k havent began to replace 1080p video as default. Amazon doing monthly payments on this is a great deal. Cons: I had to exchange the first panel I received. First panel had one dead pixel out of the box, and the vertical edges of the display were much dimmer than the rest of the screen on light backgrounds. Replacement panel is fine. USB hub on the monitor is unpowered, limiting what can be plugged into it. Very odd choice by LG to save a few cents on the USB hub, my Logitech G910 keyboard wouldnt even power up connected to it - HDR on this screen is terrible, leave it off. Notes: The USB hub is used for firmware upgrades - keep the cable handy no matter how useless the USB hub is. I upgraded from an Asus ROG Swift PG278QR - that display came with about 5 dead pixels and always looked washed out. It also has a firmware bug that affects the display, and backlight bleed was an issue too. And it even cost more than this LG panel! The LG 27GL850 is a huge upgrade in quality! Watch some reviews before you buy - Hardware Unboxed goes over this display very nicely. This monitor uses DisplayPort 1.4 - you may need to update the firmware of your graphics card to support it or you will not have POST/boot output on the screen. Nvidia has a download for updating older cards - I had a 1080 Ti when I bought my first LG and it was painless to run the upgrade. If you cannot upgrade, you can change the monitor to DP 1.1 or 1.2 via the on screen menu. Im still trying to find the optimal brightness - TFT Central recommends brightness of 23 with a boost to red - it was too dim and way too red, so Im guessing LG has adjusted out-of-the-box calibration on these panels since launching them. To enable 10 bit support, use the Nvidia control panel (or AMDs equivalent) and leave HDR off in Windows. My current display calibration: Gamer 1, Adaptive Sync On, Response Time Fast, Brightness 35, Contrast 70, Gamma Mode 2, Color Temp Custom, RGB all 50, DFC Off, Smart Energy Saving Off. Im using the TFT Central ICC profile in Windows 11.

I am glad to receive a quality monitor. I didnt notice any bleed and the IPS 144hz HDR support blows the LG32GK850-G out the water. If you are stuck choosing between a 27inch 1440p or a 32inch 1440p, it really depends if you prefer crisp images and text over screen size and immersion. 110 ppi is slightly more noticeable than 91 ppi. And the screen size difference is even more noticeable. I would say that the 27GL850 is better than any 32 inch 1440p panel. I went from IPS to VA and then finally back to IPS. there is a noticeable color difference. I think most 32 inch gaming monitors are VA panels, and from my experience there was a color shift looking at the sides of the screen just by sitting right in front. Its pretty pointless to me in my opinion. I didnt receive any dead pixels are issues with the quality of the product. Im going to use this as my main monitor and give my other 32 inch va 165 hz panel to my son.

First off, I got this monitor to replace my 32 Acer Nitro 1440p monitor. I wanted something a bit smaller that had higher color accuracy. This thing absolutely delivered on all my expectations and exceeded them in terms of picture quality. The display is crisp, and the color calibration is on point right out of the box. The blacks are very deep as well, Im genuinely shocked how nice the blacks were for not being OLED. The best settings are also enabled by default for least amount of motion blurring and crispness at high FPS. I run a 6900 XT and 5950X in my system, so I have all the horsepower needed to push the full 144FPS needed. It holds up well. I would definitely rate this as one of the best monitors on the market, especially at the price point. I havent had any issues thus far, but Ill update if I do.

After playing the panel lottery on a few displays I believe Ive found the holy grail. I knew this monitor would handle motion very well from reviews but what I didnt expect is how impressive the colors and image quality would be. My normal Eww reaction to a brand new monitor as I reach for the setting was replaced my a holy $%*# and it only got better once I fired up a game. I had my 14 year old daughter whos obsessed with Overwatch hop on and she had a smile from ear to ear about how smooth the experience was. To be fair I dont notice the difference from 75hz to 144hz as much with the slower paced games I normally play, like I did going from 30hz to 60hz, but the difference is still there. I think that most people could tell the difference though if you switched back and forth. Now this monitor does not really have a 1ms response time, but this marketing strategy of slapping on a bogus response time isnt unique to this monitor. Most TN panels dont really have a true 1ms response time either. The true response time on the fast overdrive setting is 4.08 with 100% of the transitions falling under the 6.94ms window to get a true 144hz. This is excellent. Now I had originally planned on getting the cheaper 27gl83a-b, just thinking that the color gamut was the only difference. After doing some deeper digging I found the the response time on the 27gl83a-b is slightly slower as well. It was worth coughing up an extra $100 for the LG 27GL850 for me. The only thing Im not a huge fan of is the red accents on the stand, as I prefer my setup to be blacked out. To be honest it looks a bit better in person, and if youre sitting on wall youd only see a sliver of red on the top of the V base of the stand. It is also Vesa mountable, so I may do that at some point if my OCD acts up. Now I have used TN, VA and IPS monitors. TN panels are just too washed out and the viewing angles are awful. VA has better viewing angles and contrast, but they still look too washed for me and the ghosting is a sin for gaming. IPS especially now that they have high refresh rate models will be the only technology that I buy and recommend. As for aspect ratios, my last monitor was an ultrawide. Now as much as I love the 21:9 aspect ratio for gaming, I feel as if the gaming industry does not, as its not as widely supported as 16:9. It drove me crazy to buy a new game and have to play with black bars on the sides effectively shrinking my display or an extended FOV where the sides would look stetched or the hud wouldnt support 21:9. The problems go on and on and the support hasnt gotten better imo I couldnt more highly recommend this and after almost 40 years of gaming I put this monitor up there with my favorite, next level upgrades within the likes of my Super Nintendo, PS2 and my first graphics card that pushed me to 60fps.

The ghosting on the XG270QC was making me nauseous, and the blacks were too black. That panel type is supposed to have better black levels than the IPS of the UltraGear but it was just too hard to see many scenes in games without turning up the brightness, but that would overblow the picture. But the ghosting along with the seemingly crushed blacks made me look at other monitors. I settled on the UltraGear and love it! The OSD controls are also SO much better, quicker, and more intuitive, I cant believe how bad and misplaced the UI on the Viewsonic is! I really like the picture quality and sharpness and colors and no ghosting... everything is much better than the XG270QC. The two plus sides of the QC is that it was 165hz vs 144hz, but honestly I dont notice it. And it had speakers built-in. Hightly recommend UltraGear.
