So Ive been using this device for about a year. Then I noticed that intermittently it would not appear in Explorer. Its plugged in, why isnt it working. Well, after literally months of this, Im just now figuring out that its the cord that goes from the unit to the USP port thats causing an issue. Its not secure, kind of wiggles. I dont want to get another unit because the stupid connection doesnt work but what use is the drive if it wont boot up. Unfortunately, my availability to have tech support ended just a mere 10 days ago. Not sure what to do at this point. So, just check that your cord is really tight and secure if you buy this device. If not, return it and look for another brand.

The drive is very compact, very portable.

I use this external hard drive daily for work. Our server at work is typically not accessible when I work from home, so saving files on the server is not worth the headache of repairing that ongoing issue. Thus, I use this hard drive every day. Its small and easy to take back & forth from work & home. Its fast, has more storage than I could ever use, and its a quality product that has continued to work as intended for over 3 years. And you cant beat the price for that. (Especially since Im hard on things; its been dropped a bunch and thrown in my briefcase daily).

This is my 4th Seagate. I’ve only one issue with them before as far as losing files. This time it is a different issue. I noticed after awhile that my Mac book would say it was disconnected without ejecting first. Each time I checked, it was still plugged in and I could see it was connected on my Mac book. Then I it started happening more and more. Now I can barely get it to connect at all. Sometimes the cord entirely slips outside of the port. I have tried several cords and it is all the same. So I assume the port is too loose. It is only 2 months old at this point. I’ll be asking for a replacement.

I own several external hard drives and out of all of them only the Seagate ones have been trouble-free. They just work and keep on working. I have small form factor (2-1/2) portable USB hard drives in sizes from 1 TB to 4 TB, and theyve all given trouble free service. I love to have seagate hard drives. Also i would recommend my friends to go for seagate hard drives. It is different from other storage drives, as the speed of the drive is very unique when we compare with other drives. We can purchase with amazon anytime as it is available for all the users with good price.

Got this yesterday. 5 TB of space sounds like richness. Easy to get it up and running -- a matter of seconds. I like that it does not require a separate power cord, only the USB connection cord to the PC. Since this device is replacing my nearly-full external backup drive, I started the file transfer process. 775 GB of data in over a million files. This is where this drive fails to meet expectations. Transfer write speeds vary from 2 KB/second to 2 GB/second. Incredibly slooooowwww. The estimate is that it will take between 60 and 80 hours to complete the copying. Hopefully the drive performs faster when dealing with less data. But, 2 KB/second??!! I believe floppy disks were faster than that! WOW...... UPDATE: It ultimately took just under 80 hours to do the initial backup copy. Going forward, by doing a daily backup of only whats changed, the slowness is less noticeable thanks to low volume. Now I just hope the storage device is reliable and continues to save my backup data for years to come. UPDATE OVER A YEAR LATER: the drive has worked well, no issues. Daily backups of just a few MB scheduled in early morning hours has been good. Occasionally retrieve files from it and it has worked as expected. Upped rating from 2 to 3 stars.

This is the second Seagate external hard drive I have purchased. Loved the first one (which I still use) I just needed additional storage. I am happy to say that Seagate does not disappoint. I love its portability and ease of use.

Due to the size of this device can back-up my entire computer and have the ability to store pictures and other files just in case there is a problem with my main computer. Piece of mind.

Has bought three of these in the past years. Find it to performs better than the other Seagate models of the same size. May purchase again if the price drops further.
