This monitor is hands down the best one I have ever tried. The performance is top tier. The gamefast input is insane! I feel like I can actually react! The frames go high and the colors are so vibrant. Honestly the best monitor for competitive gaming.

Since I dont buy games for $60 when they are released (I wait until they come down to a reasonable price on Steam), I dont have any current gen games. Therefore, most of my [older gen] games at max settings run above 60 fps on my gaming rig, putting this monitors high refresh rate to good use. I must have poor vision or something, because I do not have any complaints about the color that everyone seems to be going on and on about. I own several monitors of different panel types (IPS, VA, TN) and this one does not seem to be significantly inferior to any of them. But then again, I am an audiophile rather than somebody who knows much about color. PROS: I dont need to repeat what others have written. You may want to read this article about refresh rate before purchasing: maximumpc.com/refresh_rate_2013. You can probably trick yourself into thinking that 144Hz actually makes a difference (much like a placebo effect). CONS: [1] the speakers. ASUS should have just not bothered. They can make a nasty whine depending on what is onscreen, so youd better plan on using headphones or some other alternative to the speakers. [2] cable length. The money that ASUS spent on adding the speakers should have been put towards longer ones (both the DVI cable and the power cord were so short that I had to change my desk setup to accommodate them). Obviously these are not cons that are enough to knock a star off the total score for the monitor, as you can simply buy a longer cable and not use the speakers. Okay, I have had this monitor for a while now. And it took a VERY LONG TIME to be able to get my settings right to make the screen look good. And my comparison was to my old off-brand tv that I also have connected. Out of the box, the monitor will look terrible. It will. The off-brand tv looked way better. I am going to post all of my settings so that it will hopefully help someone else. The reason I am only giving the monitor 4 stars is the fact that the speakers are completely useless and that was the main reason I chose this monitor. Dont use the speakers on this monitor. They are some of the worst speakers Ive ever heard. I bought a nice, THX rated, Logitech speaker set to fix that issue. If they wouldve decreased the price and took the speakers out, I wouldve given this monitor 5 stars. It spins around on its stand for easy adjustment. You can also raise or lower the screen by holding down the base and push the display using its frame up or down as needed. It doesnt take much pressure to adjust, but it will hold firmly in position. The build of the entire monitor screams pro gamer monitor. And I would agree. 144hz. If you havent seen a monitor functioning at 144hz, you really need to see it. 59/60 hertz shows trails and seems to have its own motion blur. When Im playing any game, this is distracting, I might try to predict the balls movement in the game Rocket League and then I miss because the low hertz cause a lot of problems. If you are using a tv for any of your gaming(like I did until I got this monitor) It is an amazing jump. You will instantly see all of the movement without any trails or motion blur. Nice clear fast movement. It wont look like a low frame rate or anything. The top review for this item gives advice before you buy about whether your computer can handle 144hz or not, I suggest that you read that review as well. Most other screen types also have really high input lag shown while this monitor is only 1 ms. You are unable to see input lag at 1ms. Its awesome. Now for my settings. I did not like the settings that were supposed to be the best. The screen looked foggy and the colors didnt look right. Splendid > Theater Mode Blue Light Filter > Level 0 Brightness > 60 Contrast > 83 Saturation > 50 (Dont worry, the colors are still very vibrant at this level) Color Temp > User Mode R > 89 G > 89 B > 90 Skin Tone > Natural Smart View > Off Image Sharpness > 60 Trace Free > 80 ASCR > Off Now whether you like these settings as they are is up to you. You may want to tweak them more. If you modify your settings afterward, post them here so I can try them as well. Sharpness is the only thing I cant decide on. 60 should be the max and you may want to lower it to either 40 or 50.

This is my 3rd ASUS monitor. The first two were purchased years ago for a dual screen setup. This was my first experience with a 144hz monitor (the previous monitors were only 60hz) and all I can say is What a difference! Games were fantastic with my GPU set to 144hz refresh rate. Fast scrolling through webpages looks like Im literally moving a long piece of paper. The page isnt choppy at all. I wish I would have had the funds to go 1 step further and get the 4k monitor from ASUS. The stand is great. Easy height adjustment with just slight pressure up or down. Plenty of tilt and rotation as well as being able to rotate the monitor vertically 90 degress which would be great for coding. It seems quite stable as monitors go as well.If you get any wobble from typing/gaming its probably due to the quality of the desk it sits on and not the stand. Mine doesnt move even a little on my desk. If it matters, the buttons are on the bottom (my previous ASUS monitors were this way as well). The big difference with these buttons is that the power button is more protruded than the others (both the buttons on this monitor and the buttons previously used by ASUS) and it lights up which combined makes it easy to locate by both feel and sight. Switching between view settings is easy. It comes with pre-set views optimized for different uses. Or you can customize it to whatever you would like. If you dont have your heart set on 4k or the AMD/Nvidia plugins, you will not go wrong with this monitor. Its a great buy and I highly recommend ASUS monitors for their price/performance.

I have had this monitor for just about 2 weeks now, I gotta say, when you go 144hz, you will not wanna go back to anything else. I was on the fence with the purchase of this monitor, as I have read both good and bad things about. I did not get it with any dead pixels, nor do I have any to date, nor have I seen any sign of bleeding. I spent a good few months looking for a good gaming monitor, and I looked at well over a 100, I kept coming back to this one. I will be buying another one. I have been playing FO4 in ultra mode (All settings in ultra), Witcher 3 in ultra, doom in ultra, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in ultra, and have had no blurring or screen tears of any kinds. I would suggest this monitor to anyone, not quit sure, and tired of that endless searching for a good gaming monitor. The monitor has ports for 1x HDMI, 1x Dual-link DVI-D and, 1x DisplayPort. My Asus monitor came with 1x Dual-link DVI-D cable, power cord, and driver disk. I would 100% recommend this Gaming Monitor to family, friend, worst enemy, and anyone looking for a good gaming monitor at a great price. P.S. 144hz only runs on Dual-link DVI-D and DisplayPort. Again, my monitor came with 1x Dual-link DVI-D cable, and you can pick up a gold plated DisplayPort cable on Amazon, for less than $12 USD. P.S.S. To get the Nvidia Vision 2 Kit to work proper with all 3D movies, make sure you are running the Dual-link DVI-D cable. I have had problems running this with 3D movies with the Displayport cable, with my CyberLink DvD software and Nvidia Vision kit.

So this is my first impression of it so far after using it for about 7 hours in. As a person who updated from a 75hz overclocked monitor and have had 60hz monitors all their life, this was a huge upgrade for me. The games that I play (Mostly fps) run very smoothly and compared to 60hz monitor I had previously, it had much less motion blur, and Id like to say the experience was a little TOO smooth for me because I had come from such rigid frame loading. Anyway the first problem I had kind of noticed for me is that the monitors color is extremely bright and about 1 hour – 2 hours into gaming I had eye strain and noticeably blurred vision which doesnt normally occur to me on my previous monitor after 10+ hours. Id say try to adjust the monitor to your liking, but the lighting even right now is kind of killing my eyes. The price for this monitor though in my opinion is fantastic for its value, though I had hoped that this monitor could be moved on the Y axis rather than a tilt up and down, but that is to be expected. The screen size for me is exceptional and personally moving from an 20 screen makes quite the difference. If youre considering buying this as your first monitor, do it!! But if this isnt your first I honestly would say if you are willing to sacrifice $50-60 more, then I believe you can get a monitor that feels much nicer but seeing as this is my first monitor and I wanted to play safe, I am very satisfied with what I had received and a lot of the color and brightness and be adjusted in the monitor along with for me using the NVIDIA Control Panel. I wish I could give you more information since I hadnt found any other reviews for this monitor but Ill be sure to post updates every few weeks to tell you how it has been for me.

I like it. For the price that I got it at, I really, really like it. Ive read on a lot of reviews that people dont like the finish and how it attracts dust, I personally dont mind. When I got it I thought, wow people complain so much about such a small detail. But if it matters that much to you then, I dont know then, maybe a different monitor to avoid getting annoyed by the dust it collects? It honestly doesnt collect dust that much if you dust weekly (and my pc set up is in my bedroom so a blanket + carpet flooring by comparison) For the colors that people complain about, I just went into the monitor settings and adjusted the screen color and contrast to the way I find comfortable for my eyes. I did find that the default setting when you first get it did bother my eyes a little bit. If you work with photo shop or other applications and need precise color display then I wouldnt recommend this monitor, it was specifically for gaming for me. I dont have any complaints about the monitor, other than its a bit too big for my desk set up, but I have another monitor so thats my problem. My first 144 Hz monitor, the change in experience is pretty great. Changed my life forever. Im a college student so for this upgrade I felt it was a good deal (I had wanted a pure black monitor to match the pc color scheme and the other ones in the market didnt fall in that criteria) A month into having this monitor, thats pretty much all I have to say I think; will update if I have problems later.

Pros: Monitor is large yet compact and will not take up a lot of space on a desk. The ability to raise and lower the screen vertically with just a push makes going from low/eye level when typing to fully elevated for watching movies farther away really convenient. The very bottom of the monitor is 2 from the desk when its fully lowered and 6 7/8 from the desk when fully raised (just some info I wish knew when buying). Although I likely wont use it that often, I also like the option to swivel the monitor into a vertical orientation. Lastly, the 144 Hz refresh rate is extremely noticeable especially if youre coming from an old 60 Hz monitor. Mouse movement, window dragging & video games are so much smoother and fluid. Others may disagree but I found the viewing angles for the monitor to be very forgiving. Granted, if you try and look from a 45 degree angle youll see some yellowing/bluing and darkening but that is expected of a TN panel. Cons: The monitor will ONLY work in 144 Hz mode when using the DVI or DP ports and a resolution of 1920x1080. I bought an HDMI cable assuming it would support 144 Hz but its capped at 60 Hz. Maybe thats just my lack of understanding technical information about HDMI and DVI/DP so I can let it slide, I just wish it was stated. Out of box, in all the default Splendid viewing modes the colors were very washed out and each mode was VERY bright. After a bit of research, this appears to be a common problem with the monitor. The solution is to download custom ICC profiles. A simple search of the monitor model number and ICC profiles leads you to multiple tutorials on how to load these profiles. After the profiles are applied the difference is obvious; the colors, contrast, brightness etc. are all improved dramatically. I only wish ASUS put a little more work into the default settings so I wouldnt have to adjust anything. Summary: Overall, the monitor is the perfect size for sitting up close but also big enough to watch movies from afar. There were no defects, scratches, or dead pixels (so far) out of the box. The screen is very bright and clear, but youll likely have to download an ICC profile or tweak the settings to get the picture/colors that are best for you. Be sure you have a dual-link DVI supported video card before purchasing because the 144 Hz can only be unlocked using DVI/DP. For a $277 monitor with 144 Hz capabilities and decent-good picture quality (after adjustment) its a solid buy.

This is based off using this for 2D Gaming. I wont be using this monitor for 3D gaming because I think its terrible. Pros: +144hz eliminates almost all motion blur in games. If you have the computer power to push them higher frames. +60hz vs 144hz is night and day. +Anti Glare Coating is super nice. Not grainy looking at all and keeps glares at bay. + I havent noticed any input lag at all in various games. +Price is right for this tech +I love the adjustable stand +Asus OSD is easy to navigate with good options to calibrate +Very easy to fine tune using Spyder 4 elite Negatives: - Very poor luminance uniformity. Spyder 4 showed 35% difference on upper left sector. - All 4 Asus monitors purchased in last 2 months all had stuck pixels. (Three pb278q returned with zero problems because Amazon is the best in the business) -Minor backlight bleed -Worst colors out of box I have ever seen. Spyder 4 elite made this look half way decent. -TN Panel, so poor colors compared to newer IPS/PLS Panels. Most these problems point to quality control IMO. UPDATE 1/26/2013: All TN panels look bad to me after buying a Asus pb278q which is a pls panel with amazing colors, so I am probably being a bit harsh when I say the colors are bad. But 60hz is just too slow for fast gaming. Where this panel really shines is first person shooters, barely any motion blur. 144fps in Battlefield 3 has helped my aim so much its not even funny. After playing at higher refresh rate, I cannot play on 60hz anymore, it looks terrible. Im raising this one star to 4/5 after gaming on it hardcore for last 24hrs. Would be 5/5 if not for the poor uniformity and stuck pixel. This panel will have to do tell the big companies make a 120hz IPS/PLS or Oled monitor but we wont see that in the near future because you would need so much graphic power to run 1440p at 120hz and get acceptable frames. My EVGA 690 cant even max out all eye candy in games like Farcy 3, Metro 2033, etc... and keep 120+fps constant on this vg248qe 1080p monitor.

Had one of these for 7 years, second one for 4 now. Buy it already, its the best monitor ever.
