let me preface this by saying in the past I have had 60Hz monitors with a response time somewhere around 5ms, needless to say this is a major upgrade from the past. The monitor showed up in its base packaging, no exterior box around it to hide what was in it, which annoyed me but is no reason to take a star off from this product. inside it was padded with some Styrofoam and it had some thin plastic over the glossy parts so as to prevent smudges and initial damage from the factory. It also comes with an attachment at the base that helps to keep the power cord and the DVI Cable from being seen. There are three cords included in the packaging, a DVI Cable for video, an AUX Cable for the built in speakers, and of course the Power Cable. the AUX Cable feels rather cheap and probably wont hold up to much wear and tear, however both the power cord and the DVI Cable appear sturdy and of better quality. there are also ports available for other inputs such as HDMI, and Displayport, however it does NOT include those cables, it only includes a Dual-Link DVI Cable. One word of caution, although it may just be my cable, but I tried to plug an HDMI Cable in, but it would not transmit at the full 144Hz, it limited itself to about 60 Hz. it may have been my cable specificly but that is something to watch out for. The monitor comes with a CD that includes some software to manage and adjust various settings, however it is also available straight from the manufacturers website. Now for the features on this! The VG248QE Comes with a built in cross hair setting that displays either a Green or Red with two different types on the screen. I find this is cool in concept, even useful in games like Counter Strike, but I do have a couple of grievances. for one, the Red Crosshairs are offset by about a pixel to the right, this may be me being picky but that bothers the living daylights out of me! also I dont like how fancy the crosshairs are, I would personally prefer a simple + without all the other crap around it. And lastly I wish the image size was customizable. there is too much screen space taken up by it in my opinion, so adjusting the size would be nice! it comes with various preset monitor settings including, Theater, Gaming, Scenery, Night View, sRGB, and Standard. From what I can tell, the changes are as follows: Scenery Livens up the colors, making colors brighter, which you commonly seen done on professional photography level. Gaming brightens the colors as well but with less contrast, allowing you to see figures in the dark shadows. it also Sharpens the images, giving defining figures I have not yet tested the other modes, so I can not comment on them. The screen itself moves 90 degrees clockwise, it will also swivel on its stand, be angled anywhere between 15 and -5 degrees and it can move up and down ~11cm. I love the way you move this monitor, its not jerky, and there dont appear to be any preset spots for it to sit, instead it almost flows when you adjust it up and down. I have also not had any issues of it falling down or repositioning itself in any way thus far. One slightly disappointing thing is that the Viewing angles seem rather narrow, and I find I can not have too many people crowd around it. Now onto the things everyone cares about. The Refresh rate. As I have previously stated up to this point every monitor I have owned has been a 60Hz monitor. Needless to say there is a large difference between 60 and 144 Hz. However I could not tell at first, simply because I forgot to go into NVidias Control Panel and allow my G Card to go above 60 fps. Once I had that figured out, I dont think I will ever go back! The motions of moving, in game or in the browser are remarkably smooth, so much so that it was very unsettling at first. and everything on screen is so much clearer! your graphics card doesnt have to render blurred images because your producing more images each second, so they can be clearer, more precise. This improved refresh-rate made this monitor worth every penny! To Long? Didnt Read? Heres a quick Pros Cons! Pros: 144Hz 1ms Response time multiple preset screen settings Built in crosshair Low in price compared with other 120/144Hz monitors 24 Inches Cons: Did not come with 3D Gear No USB Ports Narrow viewing angle Red Crosshairs Slightly offset All in all, as a avid gamer, I highly recommend getting this monitor, assuming of course that you are getting ~144 fps in game! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: 7-31-14 So after using this monitor a while I tried playing on a different monitor at 60 Hz, for those that own this monitor you know, it is painful to try to go back! it feels so choppy and extremely blurred compared with the ASUS 144HZ. I still have had no issues with the screen moving, and not a single dead pixel yet, whereas my old 60 Hz monitor has about three scattered about the screen. I find that I usually play in the gaming mode due to the added ability to see the enemy hidden in the shadows!

I dont really understand the complaints about the color with this monitor. It was the one thing that kept me from purchasing it and I was pleasantly surprised to find that people are generally wrong as the gamut volume is about 93% sRGB accurate. With a proper ICC color profile with Display Profile and some monitor OSD tweaking, the color on this monitor is way more than adequate for gaming and movies. Its actually very pleasing. The best looking IPS panels will be 100% sRGB and near 100% Adobe RGB but also be pretty awful for gaming. TN panels are now approaching 100% sRGB (the best Ive found was 97%) and maintain their fast refresh and response rates. Keep in mind that for a good TN gaming monitor you will be spending $200 and it will be 60Hz. For just $50-70 more you can get 120Hz and 3D. Asus also has a great RMA policy on this monitor and my last Asus monitor is 5 years old and still chugging. Never blinked. That said, 120Hz is just okay. It isnt a game changing experience for me. I forget about it in the mix of action. The first time I experienced it, it was definitely noticeable but within the next 10 minutes it was indistinguishable unless I focused on the smoothness. Its nice to have but not game changing. I havent tried 3D and Im sure I will find that to be a gimmick. Some of the reviews of 3D gaming have me intrigued but Im not looking to drop another $60 just to try it. Just a very solid monitor, overall. No real flaws or areas where you wish it were better. Some OSD tweaks would be nice but not a big deal. Being able to save profiles would be nice. The stand is very solid and I had forgotten how nice it was to have the ability to raise it to proper eye level. The cable management is fairly poor mostly because of where the cables plug into the monitor itself. I use DVI and the red cable management clip on the back routes the cable right into eye view under the panel. Thats annoying. I ordered and DisplayPort cable to see if that helps. Also stays very cool. I feel no actual heat coming off the top of this monitor with my brightness being 24. It seems to sip power and give off very little heat in return - keeping in mind it is winter and under 70F in my place. If you are worried about color, dont be. If you are coming from IPS you wont miss much and with gaming in mind, you will benefit more than you lose.

****** IMPORTANT ****** Before I start - As everyone has said on these reviews before, the colors look very pale and washed out once you get the monitor. I highly recommend that you Google or go on YouTube and search for this specific video ASUS VG248QE Color Settings / ICC Profile (and discussing lightboost). The uploaders name is Static Sleet and the video was uploaded in October 2015. There are other websites that teach you how and some Reddit threads that do the same, but this video is extremely straightforward on what you should do as soon as you get your monitor out of the box. Now, I was very hesitant in getting this monitor because Im a pretty cautious consumer and read all the one star reviews. I was so afraid of being one of the dead / stuck pixel receivers, but whew! Everything is perfect. I just upgraded from a 20 inch, 60hz, and not a 1ms response time monitor and the difference is staggering. I have this new one and my old one set up side by side and its like night and day. This monitor is much more bright, vibrant, and crisp than the blurry and dull image I see on the old monitor. The box was well packaged and the monitor very secure, and there are no scratches or any parts bent / out of place. Sure, its not one of the more expensive 1440p models that boast G-Sync and yada yada, but if youre on a budget constraint that allows you only to get monitors around 300-400$, this is a steal. So, if youre like me, stop looking at the $600 - $1000+ monitors and narrow them down to two models - this ASUS VG248QE or its 27 counterpart, or the BenQ Zowie XL2411Z that is probably the other one youve been looking at. The only thing that you should do now is go on Google / YouTube again and search BenQ XL2411Z vs ASUS VG248QE 144 hz Monitor Comparison - Which is best for YOU? by Gus Tech. As you can see through the comments and other sites that pit these two versus each other, ASUS blows BenQ out of the park when it comes to picture QUALITY (color, vibrance, etc). The BenQ is claimed to be more efficient however in games because it stays true and strong in those parts of FPS shooters like CS:GO where youre turning around corners and shooting people very quickly. As a FPS fanatic, I can tell you that it is not noticeable at all. It was a no brainer for me to choose the ASUS model after looking at the video I just mentioned because a little efficiency is not worth sacrificing an amazing picture for. Unless youre some world champ shooter that somehow notices this little difference when youre turning around corners, youre not going to notice any difference in those terms at all. The BenQ colors are just terrible. I wouldnt want to play video games to be better if Im not going to like what Im looking at, and you probably dont want that either. Also, one thing I was debating on before getting this model was whether or not I should get the 27. My 20 is so tiny and I was so sick of it, so I thought - the bigger the better. However, I looked up Is a 27 monitor and 1080p worth it and the results werent that great. Many said that you would notice a loss of quality almost immediately unless your computer is extremely far away from you and to the back of the desk, but that wasnt me because my monitor is sitting only an arms length away. I also read on Reddit from people with 27 models that it was simply too big for them and they actually got worse at high speed video games because their eyes couldnt keep up with everything that was going on in the corners and sides of the screen. So, following that advice, I got the 24 because the quality would seemingly be at perfect balance and not stretched out onto a 27 screen and because I didnt want the problem of not being able to see everything happening if Im playing a fast-paced video game. Im very glad that I listened to them! Im actually having trouble sometimes keeping up with this screen too because its also very big when an arms length away. If I had a 27, it would be great for watching some movies far away but.. not at all for games unless you have additional eyes beside your ears. An added bonus with this is that youll be saving 50$ too (by not getting the bigger model)! Overall, I think you should get this VG248QE if your budget falls around here and youre looking for an entry-level 144hz, 1ms, 1080p monitor. Yes, there are lots of one star reviews because of misplaced pixels, but I can tell you after hours of searching for monitors before I got this one that there is only ONE monitor I found with only 4-5 star reviews - and it cost 2300$ and only like two or three people actually reviewed it.. Every monitor you come by will have problems from consumers such as dead pixels, power failures, the monitor simply dying, buttons falling off, etc. The VG248QE will have a lot more of these simply because of the sheer amount of people that have bought this over the years. When youre producing a lot of these monitors, obviously some are bound to fail. but this model, as you can tell, is always holding strong near 80% five star reviews - which is a lot higher than other monitors that I have seen on Amazon. Just pray that youre not in the 20% and buy it. Dont press your back button and go to the BenQ. Just get it!! Oh, and a lot of people seem to not be getting DVI-D cables with their orders so I read those reviews and got the gold plated, ferrite, DVI-D cable that is under the products frequently bought with this because I thought I wouldnt be getting one. Well, I did get one with the monitor. So, take that with a grain of salt; you may or may not get one.

I have been happy with most ASUS products I have owned over the years. Reading some of the harsh critical comments about this unit did give me pause, but I went with my gut feeling and purchased it anyway. So far I am very happy with it. I find the standard setting to be the best compromise as far as what, to my eyes, seems accurate and natural looking for games. I bought this to replace a 20 HP which I got at Walmart years ago. However, I wanted to step up from 60Hz to 122 or 144, since my video card is fully capable of 150 frames per second on my games. I play FPS pc games pretty exclusively and this monitor has given me a slight edge, when combined with a larger mouse pad and my Razer mouse/keyboard. The bigger screen and smoother action has helped me with twitch targeting slightly, and is much more pleasurable to view overall. Foolishly, I initially went to a website to find what the experts recommended as far as user-tweakable settings and, along with a few other things, cranked up the Trace Free setting to 100, as directed. Later, when I tested one of my games, I was getting horrible ghost-like edges and a rainbowish motion blur. Of course, I completely forgot about the Trace Free setting and became disillusioned when I returned all settings to what I thought was factory default, and the problem persisted. Eventually, after much exasperation, I returned the Trace Free setting to factory, (40), and the monitor looks beautiful now. As far as the low ratings here, I must conclude that there are simply enthusiasts here who are a bit too snobbish for their own good. Are there better monitors out there? Sure, I have seen a couple, but, if you are like me and you do not want to invest $600 in a monitor, then look no further. This one will be a very welcome upgrade. I recommend you buy it.

The screen is easy to put together, has all the eye care, and brightness features you’d expect from a monitor today. Also the refresh rate is so good, I often forget it’s only a 1080 screen

I order two of these monitors and I am more than satisfied. If youre in the market for a good 1080p monitor for gaming this is it, especially FPS games. That is assuming you have a video card setup than can make use of the 144Hz refresh rate. Even for fast paced action movies these monitors are great as your image stays clear even in the fastest of action scenes. I really noticed a huge difference in BF3 game play but like most people say not so much with non-FPS games. Sure its better for everything but not as noticeable out side of an FPS gaming. I read a lot of reviews on this monitor before my purchase and there were a lot of complaints about the colors being horrible. Well, they look just fine to me, maybe not the best but accurate enough at the very least if youre not OCD about it. I have mine set in Standard Mode, TraceFree 80, Color Temp Normal, and dropped the brightness to 80 and see zero problems with my colors. Theyre better than my previous monitors and far better than a lot of other monitors I have seen in my day. Something to note though, if you do not have a video card with two DVI connectors like myself, remember to buy the appropriate DisplayPort cable so you can run multiple monitors at 144Hz. It will not run at 144Hz off of an HDMI connection. You need to run it off of DVI with the supplied Dual Link DVI cables or buy DisplayPort cables separately for 144Hz. Couldnt be happier with my purchase as these monitors have a great feature set and require just a few minutes of browsing through the settings to tweak things to your liking. :)

Ill give you the scoop on this monitor. The monitor physically is built well. adjusting the height and orientation is so smooth. you got pretty much all the inputs you need. So you get this monitor, open it up, hook it up (please use a Displayport cable first choice, otherwise you can use the dvi cable it comes with but i used a displayport cable). You turn on the monitor and right off the bad your gonna notice some of the biggest flaws of this monitor. The colors are washed out, dull, contrast ratio isnt great either. At this point your gonna wanna do 2 things, make sure you enable and set your monitor to 144hz in Windows 10/gfx settings. the 2nd thing you want to do is adjust the colors and brightness/contrast. This is the most frustrating things about this monitor. It feels like a constant push and pull contest between you and the monitor for getting colors just right. and to my experience I never have got them the way I like it consistently. every day i feel like i am tweaking settings. Especially if I am playing games and then going back to everyday use. its like the color profiles get all screwy. i find this to be the biggest headache with this monitor. Your not gonna be happy with everyday monitor use out of this thing. BUT....... with gaming, i think this monitor is pretty good.the color issues you dont really notice as much in gaming. you get the super fast refresh rates and gaming from 60hz to 144hz monitor is such a treat. No ghosting, and response rate is super fast. i think this is where this monitor shines... its super fast for those competitive gamers. This leads me to my conclusions about this monitor. If you are only going to be buying this for gaming, go for it. however if you are looking to use this to do anything else, like browse the internet or watch movies or work in photoshop or write code... man its really disappointing monitor for that. the colors and white and black levels are just so poor and color reproduction is mehh... this monitor has 1 purpose only and thats gaming... its great for gaming, horrible for anything else. Luckily for me i have a nice dell ultrasharp UDH for my everyday use, and its amazing for movies, browsing, photoshop and coding (things i do alot of). So my ASUS VG248QE is only being used for gaming. But i was honestly disappointed with this monitor on how bad it was for non gaming use. i am really considering returning this and trying out some newer 144hz monitors and try out a VA or a IPS panel and see how it compares. PROS: - sturdy - easy ajustments - 144hz 1ms response - great for competitive gaming CONS: - horrible quality for non gaming use - out of box colors are terrible - adjusting colors/brightness/contrast is a continuous struggle - viewing angles are not great even for a TN panel - bad for non-gaming use

Game Monitor If you get it for the normal price. This monitor is excellent. Pros: 3 year Warranty 144hz + Tracefree Technology Adjustable Stand 144hz capable with DVI-D or Display Cable. Monitor Digital Vibrance (Saturation) Excellent clarity Cons: Colors when using 144hz. Theres no nice way to say, the colors suck by default. You can tweak it but it will take sometime to find exactly what you like. The nice thing though is depending on the profile you select, you can up digital vibrance on the monitor it self. It makes console games look amazing. PS4, Wii U, and Xb1 looks great, But remember, Consoles only use 60hz or lower depending on the game. If you google this monitor you will find a reddit with a bunch of different colors and profiles to try. Motion Sickness: I found this monitor was making me slightly motion sick. Im not use to see 144 FPS in pc games so it was messing with me a little. I expect this will go away shortly as it was slowly getting better over time while using it last night. Final Thoughts: Personally, I love this monitor. I bought it mainly for the 144hz for CS:GO and some other games on PC. The colors arent nearly as close to my 27 LED Viewsonic monitor but I knew that going into it. The monitor is great for competative gaming and for console gaming as well. Even though its only 24, if your playing a game at a desk like I am, it works perfect. If your looking for a monitor to do graphic design or you care a lot about colors, get an IPS screen. This is a TN panel after all. its meant for gaming, and thats pretty much it. Ive used BenQ monitors in the past and they are very nice, but honestly, this monitor is just as good if not better for some. BenQ is like the Apple brand of monitors. Its a big name and everyone loves them but they are also elistest with it as well. Go for whats cheaper and you will not be sorry.
