This is an awesome seam ripper. Sadly, it is not what I thought I ordered. I was looking for, and thought I bought the old kind like you can get in the stores. Was looking for just the working end without the handle. The descriptor seam ripper was misleading to me.

Seamstress for 40+ years, here. Havels scalpel seam ripper is far and away the best I have used, and I have used every seam ripper on the market. I own 3 Havels rippers, one next to each of my sewing machines. The replacement blades are honed razor sharp all the way to the tip and slice precisely through all seams--even jeans--as through hot butter.

Love the surgical ripper and these blades keep it going.

When you want to cut threads in a seam, the process is to insert the tip and, then, with a twist of the wrist, it cuts. For anyone that has ever used a seam ripper (and that would be anyone who sews), the use of this scalpel is is a life-saver! Investment in the scalpel is well worth the money and the blades can be replaced, keeping your ripper sharp. I rated the ease of use as three out of five because you have to BE CAREFUl when you are ripping or you will cut fabric. With careful use, the is a real time saver.
