WD 4TB Gaming Drive works with Playstation 4 Portable External Hard Drive - WDBM1M0040BBK-WESN

This is a good external drive with generous storage. Bus-powered, compact and USB 3 transfer speeds.

Bought this for the ps4 that my son uses. Bought in february 2019, he started using it at the end of March. Everything worked great until september 2019 when it just stopped working. I know that it is not the most expensive, but I expect more that 6 months of use for a backup gaming drive.

Not the fastest but its average performance and cool running makes this a great device. Reliability is the most important factor and there has been no problems with it at all. It also looks great. Using it for backup and not with a PS4. No formatting or anything else required and worked right out of the box..

Relatively small and holds a lot of space

I had been using a different brand desk top drive as external storage for my ps4 pro and even though it was still working I decided to try this and Im glad I did. This is definitley the way to go for any game console owner looking for extra game storage. WD got it right with this product. Even the 4tb is small enough to hold in one hand. Simply connect to ps4 with included 1ft USB cable and the device simply lays unobtrusively on top of ps4. The device is powered by the ps4 and comes on and shuts off with it. Just dont forget to click on stop using extended storage under the device settings before powering off the ps4. Device also has no distracting lights and doesnt make any noise. I would definitely purchase again.

Easy setup

Im really not sure why this is marketed purely for Xbox. I dont even own an Xbox and instead purchased this for just uploading movies to keep on hand. I think the box should say something like Play all of your photos, music, videos and games. because thats what it does. Im a Sony guy so the Xbox thing doesnt intrigue me at all. I like the fact that its small and pocket fittable. Really easy to use on any TV that has USB support. The USB 3.0 cable is very short and I could see that being a hinderance at times. There is no case included like some of the other terabyte hard drives. But the drive itself seems to be pretty durable and as long as you take care of it, it should be fine. This is my first time owning a device that has a USB 3.0 port. Im unsure about it. The speed is noticeable and nice, but possibly more concerning is that the end of the 3.0 chord seems likely that it will wear and break over time. The way its shaped seems weak to me in comparison to a basic, say, android phone with a 2.0 charging cable. Only time will tell on this. Other than those small things I love it so far for storing my movies. No setup needed. Just plug in and go. Only reason why i posted 4 out of 5 stars is because I just havent owned it long enough to put 5.
