I have listing to a police scanner for many of years and when my county went digital then i went a bought a bran new radio shack digital police scanner gave close to 500 hundred dollars for it but unfortunately Once again my county made some more changes where they went to the Tenn Advance system and you had to have a phase one and phase two scanner to be able to pick up my frequencys so once again i had to pay big bucks for another police scanner and i bought the BCD536HP off Amazon i have got to say with out a doubt this is a very nice and up to date police scanner very easy to learn that the radio shack pro 197 I had .but the down side of it all is i have put in to close to 1000 dollars in two scanners in the last 4 years so hopefully that my county want change anything else around because what they did the last time costed them over 20 million dollars what i herd and also herd that before it is all over and done with everybody will eventually have to have a phase 1 and phase 2 scanner because they are suppose to upgrade all counties to that in the near future but like i said this is a very nice scanner i love it have not learned ever thing on it yet but i am getting there Good Luck Scanner World

Easy to program from face of radio if you hold on channel and add. Watch video on YT. Search through the full database and see what you want to listen to. Just turn off full database and your saved list will load fast. Audio is ok-good but an expert speaker would be better.

Typing in your zip code to start scanning is very easy, but this scanner picks up so many transmissions from so far away that it is overwhelming. There is no easy way to bypass the transmissions you dont want or select only the transmissions you do want. The scanner itself is very good, with clear sound and long range using just the included antenna. If you are willing to pay extra the company offers to sell you a new sd card with your choice of county options, but after paying so much for the scanner in the first place it shouldnt cost extra to be able to program the scanner correctly. If you want an easy to program scanner to listen to only the agencies you want to hear, this is NOT it.

Very nice scanner with many options really a professional piece of equipment. Unidens sentinel program is a big help programming the scanner and also some very nice instructions on YouTube. I noticed that a lot of people on Amazon go for the pre-programmed option on Amazon this is not necessary with the Sentinel program. save yourself some dough and do it yourself this is my first Scanner and I figured it out The scanner comes with a microSD card whent you install the Sentinel program on your computer you can simply plug the micro SD card into your computer and program it for your area

The BCD536HP is a one of the best radio scanners. The sound is great, easy to manually program frequencies, and the sentinel software is nice but takes a while to learn. It works just like my BCD436HP but larger display and larger keys to add frequencies. zip code programming is great. I had it scanning frequencies in less than 10 minutes. I would sure buy it again if I did not have one. I plugged it into my cigar lighter in my truck and it worked great.

I bought it from the Amazon Warehouse to save $90. i was a little worried, but it arrived in pristine condition. Re-boxed, not the original Uniden box, but who cares. All the accessories were there. Turn it on, set the date and time, set the Zip Code, and start scanning. Easy peasy. If you have a Ph.D. in Technology, you can probably figure out how to use and enable the gazillion other features. For the rest of us, one day at a time. Really good scanner, and hundreds less than the Uniden SDS-200.. 1-19-23 Updated Review Very good scanner. I did realize that the volume/on/off knob is fairly fragile. I find myself turning the scanner on and off very carefully so it wont break. I could see that happening easily.

This is probably my sixth scanner, and covers all of the analog and digital channels that I was interested in receiving. After several months of using this scanner, it would still be the first choice for purchase. It receives all of our local un-encrypted police and fire channels. Even though I had experience with older generation Uniden scanners, there are a lot of differences that required some education. By far the best source of information was the many YouTube videos available on programming this scanner. A major improvement with these latter scanners is the inclusion of the complete RadioReference US and Canada database. The database is updated weekly with all of the new information. The Uniden Sentinel software works very well, and the scanner accepts MicroSD cards up to 32GB which can be programmed in the scanner using the included USB cable or by inserting the card into a computer. Very easy to back up the programming information. You can have one or more backup MicroSD cards. This scanner also covers P25 Phase II channels which are being used by many police and fire departments. This scanner is a big improvement from my old BCD996T. Much easier to program once I got through most of the learning curve.

I have been a scanning hobbyist for 35 years, almost all with Uniden scanners and I have never encountered anything that has claimed more and delivered less. Heres what Amazons site says: The BCD536HP continues Unidens tradition of leading innovation. HomePatrol Programming makes it the easiest-to-program mobile professional scanner weve ever made. Plus, the Wi-Fi feature lets you use the exclusive Uniden Siren App on your smartphone or tablet to access your scanner from anywhere in your home or vehicle. Easy to program?? No way! I agree, the HomePatrol feature makes it super easy to scan right out of the box. The problem is that you get a generic scan that floods you with transmissions you dont want. Do you really want to listen to Public Services in another suburb discuss filling potholes? Programming the unit to your specific needs is NOT EASY. The commands are complex and sensitive to the slightest error. Worse, Uniden provides no help. The manual is useless. If you search on-line long enough you can find a 3rd party manual that is better but still difficult and it costs $35. There are also several YouTube videos that help a lot but still be prepared for a long and difficult learning curve. WiFi - forget it. Does not work at all - absolutely no function. The advertised Uniden Siren App does not exist. It has never been delivered and all that Uniden will say about it is App release coming! How can you advertise and sell a product when its most highly touted feature doesnt even exist? Arent there Consumer Protection laws against this?? In fairness, a couple of good things to say about the unit. It has the best reception of any unit I have worked with and it has almost completely solved the vexing problem of P25 Simulcast interference. These are important features not to be overlooked. IMHO - Uniden bit off more than they could chew with this unit. Unless you enjoy living on the bleeding edge of development, hold off buying a new Uniden until they release the next generation scanner that can actually deliver what it claims!
