These really are amazing headphones! They are soft and comfortable, great sound quality, and the noise cancellation is unmatched. I dont use them to take calls but I am okay with that personally.

Been really enjoying the headphones: the bluetooth multipoint support is really nice and the build and sound quality is decent. Unfortunately I got these headphones for active noise cancellation and for inexplicable reasons sony has decided that they are smarter than the consumer and took away the ability to set the anc strength that the xm4s had. This should be an option and until it affects headphone sales sony has in incentive to reverse this decision.

I own the XM4s and Bose QC-35s. First, it should be said the XM4s are superior to the Bose QC-35s in comfort, sound and ANC. I only use the Bose in bad weather because it has manual buttons. The design of the XM5 is a radical departure. Sony opted to provide less padding between the the headband and the top of the head. For sensitive users, like myself, there is a feeling of a bump on the top of the head which is annoying. These headphones also fit tighter, i.e., more clamping pressure. Simply put, to this user, they are noticeably less comfortable as the XM4s to wear. Overall I was very satsified with my XM4s, but I received a unit where the auto-shutoff did not work and therefore tried the newer XM5s. With the XM5s, I was constantly fiddling with them to get the elusive comfortable feel. With the XM4s, I just put them on and they fit like a glove. The XM5s are better than the XM4s in many other ways (8 microphones etc), but for me, comfort is king, something I wont compromise on. Sony copied the non-folding style of the Bose 700s. If it aint broke, dont fix it. In my view this new design is an an unforced error, but Im clearly in the minority with this viewpoint.

I need silence, I didnt realize that the microphone is also dealing with the noise cancellation too. Fantastic

I loved the sound of these. They felt comfortable for a few hours before I got a headache (I wear glasses so finding headphones that I can wear longer is pretty impossible.) My only complaint which is why I returned them is I have colored hair and the cups absorbed all my hair color and stained. I always get black everything and the one time I got a different color for headphones my hair stains them...not worth $300+ if that happens.

So I did tests on several different headphones, Sony, Audio Technica, Bose, Apple, etc. Noice cancelation, sound quality, weight, comfort, you name it the mark V comes out on top. Even being more inclined to buy Apple, I still felt there were more pros for the Sonys than the AP Max.

I’ve been using Sony noise canceling headphones for a couple of years, going from XM3 to XM5. The noise cancelling quality is clearly better than Apple and Bose. My XM3 lasted 3 years of almost daily use. But the construction of XM5 looks so fragile that I was concerned from the start. And it broke after just a few months. The part over my right ear broke off from the main thing.

The headphones are simply amazing from sound, comfort and amazing ANC. I take a public bus I barley hear anyone around me (Vacation for my ears). These headphones are amazing the build quality of the headphones feels a little cheap That’s my only knock against them. They are super lightweight And the vegan leather feels super soft. The carry case in his self-is kind of cool it looks sorta like an origami piece. I would recommend these headphones to anyone that needs a vacation for there ears.

The sound quality is considerably better than previous WH-1000XM4, no joke. I purchased XM5 without much expectations but it turns out the sound quality is far, I mean far, better than XM4. For some reasons, it wasnt noticeable difference when its paired with my PC but when its paired with my Galaxy S23+, it produces unbelievably crisp sound with rich low to high fq enhancement, especially when the sound source is high fidelity and high bit rate. Maybe its some sort of codec issue, I dont know but I am unexpectedly surprised. The fit is also more comfortable if you have wide skull or large ears. I havent weighted this one but it feels lighter than XM4. I have Jabra, Arctis Pro and many other top tier headsets but so far this is the best sound headsets by far.
