I love the Sony WF-1000xm4 so I was excited for the updated version. They sound great but I think the noise cancellation option is better on the xm4.

Cumbersome when compared to other noise cancelling headphones as well as HUGE case. The WH-1000XM4 case is very slim, sleek, and compact - something easily carried on a plane where one would expect to use it most. The WH-1000XM5 case is BULKY, oddly shaped, and definitely not something that can be easily carried on a plane and utilized. The main reason for this is that the headphones dont fold like the XM4s do which is a HUGE disadvantage in my opinion. I personally dont care for the on/off button either. Many other higher-end noise cancelling headphones utilize the tilting headphone as the on/off activation which is easy, efficient, and preserves the battery. And an app ... why on earth does one need an APP in order to use the headphones. The only thing these headphones really have going for them is their noise cancelling ability and battery life are good. The negatives far outweigh the positives for the XM5s. Save your money and buy the XM4s or even another brand if truly looking for an exceptional set of headphones as these definitely are not in my humble opinion.

Continues on a bit of a muddy sound like the previous models, however the noise cancelling is superb and EQ options such as the custom Wavelet profile from soundguys make this an incredible all around headphone. Edit: After owning this for a few days Ive noticed some issues. Clicking on left channel when I move my head, ANC clipping occasionally when in a loud vehicle, and pads seem to wear in more quickly than other headphones. I still am impressed by the otherwise excellent performance, however i am getting an exchange and will update again soon. Edit 2: Replacement unit has no audible issues. However i have noticed that after a very short amount of time the pads deform permanently. This is likely due to the (probably) low density foam used, and could be detrimental to sound quality in the long term. Edit 3: Accidentally put a little too much force when squeezing these into a bag, the bracket held to the band by a single screw and some adhesive kinda just fell apart. Pushed it back together but theres a small gap there now. Maybe this headband isnt so well built. Edit 4: Returned under RMA. ANC clips too easily and the build is not good enough to use long term. Im now back on the old AKG N700ncm2.

Well, it lived up to the hype. The sound quality was superb for my listening requirements. The noise cancelling is the best Ive experienced in any Earphones Ive ever had. Its perfect for flights and removing ambient noise to enhance your listening experience. Im rarely surprised by tech doing what it says it will do without some caveat. Id highly recommend these.

I flight long haul international flights and need to cancel out the plane engined nose. My old bose headphones were ready to retire and I wanted to research Sony. I don’t mind paying the high price but I do expect top quality. Unfortunately, the seal around the ears was not tight enough, and the sensory touch activated with one strain of hair

I bought these headphones because they are the most recommended bluetooth set on the internet. I guess I just disagree with everyone on the internet because these did not impress me at all. $400 is by far the most money ive ever spent on headphones and these are not even in the top 5 of best headphones ive owned. I have a $50 gaming headset (hyperXcloud) that sound better than these. My airpod pros (2nd gen) also deliver better sound quality. My Between Pros also sound better. Earbuds should not be outperforming the supposedly best headphones on the market. Pros: They are very comfortable and the ANC is among the best on the market. The connectivity and app are flawless. Phone calls are also crisp and clear both ways. Ive had 0 problems with any glitchy stuff happening. Cons: The sound, while clear, is flat and quiet. It honestly sounds like the sound coming out of your phone, just in a headphone enviroment. If you like bass then dont buy these. Im not even a huge bass guy but I like to hear bass where there is supposed to be bass. It sounds like the bass is somewhere far off in a distance. I youtubed all the EQ settings on these and got them to sound fractionally better but nowhere near where a $400 headset should. I know sound is subjective and this is merely my opinion. But after a quick google search of sony XM5s sound terrible there were plenty of others that agree. If these are in fact the best the bluetooth headset market has to offer, then im extremely unimpressed. 3 stars because the connectivity, comfort and ANC is truly top tier. However, the #1 thing a premium headset should do is sound premium. These do not. I will be returning these and looking elsewhere for a headset.

I absolutely love these headphones. I cannot believe how good the noise cancelling capability is. I was in a crowded noisy coffee shop and with the click of a button drowned everything out. It was actually surreal and alarming how well it worked. Then clocking the same button I can listen to my music but also pick up whats going on in my surroundings. Theyre amazing and, while expensive, very well worth it. I have no issues or problems with them at all.

I have zero complaints about the audio quality, but the oversensitivity of the touch pad is so f***ing infuriating that the headphones end up having less practical use than some dirt cheap $5 headphones. Itll pick up a tap when I brush past leaves and even start spazzing while Im doing NOTHING. It keeps turning on speak to chat, and even the speak to chat is so f***ing oversensitive that it picks up subway sounds and coughs as me talking. Do yourself a favor and get the XM3 instead. They got it right a long time ago. At the very least, thank goodness theres an option to turn off gestures altogether.
