> 3 dayThe Sony headphone is the best for both noise cancelling functionality as well as intuitive controls. It allows you to carry on conversations by pausing the noise cancelling function, the right headphone controls sound lsvel, forward and back, and they are super light. Battery life is excellent and the carrying case is functional and sturdy.

> 3 dayI flight long haul international flights and need to cancel out the plane engined nose. My old bose headphones were ready to retire and I wanted to research Sony. I don’t mind paying the high price but I do expect top quality. Unfortunately, the seal around the ears was not tight enough, and the sensory touch activated with one strain of hair

> 3 dayFelt pretty happy with the 1000XM3 until I got the XM5. Clarity and dynamics are vastly improved. Bass pressure is incomparably better without being boomy. And comfort is better than the XM3, no more discomfort after long flights. A brilliant pair of headphones.

> 3 dayI loved my MX3s. I still have them and when I got the MX5s I tested them. The equalizer and sound is better. The ANC, though? No. Its not great at all, and the app does not help make it any easier--like all of Sonys stuff, they overdo the app and make it hard to easily use, tiny buttons, and slow slow slow response on my iPhone 14 pro. The worst part is the case and lack of foldability. While I love how light these are, they dont fold like my MX3, making them bulky and hard to pack. I will not use the case it weighs almost as much as the headphones. Why they dont fold is beyond me and poor design. While I love the pause when you take them off, if you wear them around your neck theyll restart again immediately and the touch buttons are too sensitive and do the same thing. I was willing to live with them until I tried a friends Airpod Max. While those are way pricier, Im sold on those--way more comfy and the sound is better, plus they fold. I was hoping for much better for these, but not it. The reviews with all the audiophiles gushing over the ANC are horsehockey--simply not that great. The bulkiness and the poor app design (an ongoing reason Sony lost the phone and electronics battle) dont help, either.

> 3 dayI love my headphones. They’re lightweight, they look nice, the sound quality is nice, and the noise cancellation is amazing. My only issue is that it’s uncomfortable. After a while of wearing mine, I’d get headaches. I’ve adjusted them so now I don’t think I get headaches anymore, but it does hurt to wear them after an extended period of time. I think it has to do with the thin headband. I’ve never had an issue with the cheaper headphones I used to use. I’ve considered getting the M4s instead because of this. I’m not sure if I have to keep adjusting or if I need more time to get used to the headphones. I’ve had them for about two weeks now. This is just something for you to keep in mind if you decide to buy.

> 3 dayCumbersome when compared to other noise cancelling headphones as well as HUGE case. The WH-1000XM4 case is very slim, sleek, and compact - something easily carried on a plane where one would expect to use it most. The WH-1000XM5 case is BULKY, oddly shaped, and definitely not something that can be easily carried on a plane and utilized. The main reason for this is that the headphones dont fold like the XM4s do which is a HUGE disadvantage in my opinion. I personally dont care for the on/off button either. Many other higher-end noise cancelling headphones utilize the tilting headphone as the on/off activation which is easy, efficient, and preserves the battery. And an app ... why on earth does one need an APP in order to use the headphones. The only thing these headphones really have going for them is their noise cancelling ability and battery life are good. The negatives far outweigh the positives for the XM5s. Save your money and buy the XM4s or even another brand if truly looking for an exceptional set of headphones as these definitely are not in my humble opinion.
