26-09-2024Not wanting to take a chance on Samsung due to some current drives being shipped with underperforming controllers, I took a chance on the SK hynix Gold P31. Its just as fast as my Samsung 870 Evo. Identical performance and maxes out at the top of my PCI 3 bus.

> 3 dayMy first foray into NVME drives: first, these are surprising thin and small, but it makes cable management a breeze. Note that this one is only PCIe3 - depending on your setup, you could squeeze a little more performance going with the PCIe4 platinum drive. Personally, Im not sure I was going to see much difference in real-world use of some gamin and office-style work, so I decided to save the money with this one.

> 3 dayI recognized the SK Hynix name from RAM that is commonly used in Dell systems. The ram always worked well and I figured the NVMe drive should be good too.

> 3 dayThis is the final word on whether or not SK HYNIX NVME will work on the Mac Pro 5,1. I have 3 of them working right now. The 2tb came with the updated firmware. The other sizes, you will need to download the firmware from the manufacturer. Im getting 6,000 read/write speed using a HighPoint SSD7101-A with a 3 count.

Greater than one weekBought the product and when I installed it I was stuck on the pre-bios screen. I thought there was a problem with the m.2_2 port and removed the ssd. I ran the pc again with my original ssd and my pc boot up perfectly. I changed the slots so i put my old ssd into the m.2_2 port and this one into the m.2_1 and i was still stuck on pre-bios. I removed my old ssd and tried to load it up again and I was still stuck on the pre-bios screen.I removed the ssd and used another ssd that I bought and installed the new one and my old ssd and my pc was able to boot up.

Greater than one weekI have a notebook computer with an M.2 Gen 3 slot. I wanted a 2 TB drive that was energy efficient, both to keep heat down and to help battery life. This one is fast and draws less power than others.

Greater than one weekNever had experience with SK hynix parts until now, but the price point and the fact that its already been tested and rated to be a very good SSD makes this a no brainer to buy.
