SENNHEISER HD 599 Open Back Headphone, Ivory

Replacement for my HD598

I game with these headphones connected through a dac amp and they sound perfect. More importantly they feel amazing after gaming for hours every session.

Great headphones, but the adapter to the small jack that came with the headphones wasnt the greatest.

So comfortable and quality is great. Happy

I Previously had the 598cs closed back, thought id give these open back a try, the soundstage is better but they are quite harsh and flat sounding, if you want a more detailed neutral sounding headphone they are fine, but they are not warm and not great for bassier electronic music , the 579s are warmer , probably going to return them and go for something a bit warmer and relaxing.

Sound clearly, wear comfortablely and sustainable for long time.

Lo que me parece que puede mejorar es el tipo de cable que se entrega con los auriculares, porque se enredan fácilmente.

This is just a personal opinion and not from someone with technical sound education. For my ears and listening desires this model fits all my needs. The very large over ear pads are comfortable to wear for many hours. The thicker cuff is covered with a cloth velour. The head band is flexible and has a leather type cushy padding. Neither have memory foam and that would be nicer. The fit improves the more they are worn. The casing seems mostly made out of a higher quality plastic with minimal rattle. Does not look or feel cheaply constructed. Now for the sound. The transducer is 50 ohm which is the highest to use for a simple connection for computer use, cell phone, etc. The broad frequency response range is more than ample for most types of music, singing and speaking voices. The big drawback is that this headphone is not designed for those that favor bass and pulsing beats. It offers more of a comfortable smooth natural middle range that is less taxing on ones inner ear and less fatiguing. The open back sound provides a wider sound stage and might be heard by others nearby. Can clearly hear a single voice soprano whistle and a bass growl. Have yet to experience a more muddy veiled or higher range sharpness. The cords are the downfall. Comes with a shorter 1.2m that has a safety turn lock that fits into the silver colored port on the left side. Ample length for portable devices and desktop computer use. Does tend to kink up. The longer 3m cord has a large jack for amplifier, equalizers, etc. Totally not necessary anymore as this headphone will not be the optimal best for mixing and recording choices. Does come with a jack adaptor which makes it both bulky and heavy causing undue internal stress at the port. A small jack with a section of cord for an alternative plug in adapter choice can be purchased separately. It should be included. I purchased this from the Amazon Warehouse as like new. Really wanted the beige retro look model but unavailable. Price wise, would wait for one of the Amazon sales and also weekly check the Sennheiser home page. Also the 560S model which should be less expensive is similar to the frequencies of the 599 but there has been some mild improvement with the fluctuation of the higher registers. All said, this is a great purchase for those that just want a higher quality, comfortable, good sounding headphone for a reasonable price when on sale. You could likely hear sounds that you have never experienced with other headphones. I always go back to the reputable Sennheiser brand.

I was wary of an headphone reviews because hearing is subjective but these provide a relatively neutral sound across high mids and bass and then with your own equalizer you can make the sound whatever you want. The microfiber cup liner is comfortable. Typically headphones last 3 years or so before the fabric on the cups wear out and I suspect that is same with these. Why 4 stars? There some lack of clarity in the ranges but that could just be my sound card.
