This monitor is interesting. I’ve enjoyed my experience with it overall. However, it took me quite a while to figure out the correct settings to be able to use it. The default settings have extremely high contrast. Reds were appearing as some sort of neon red/pink color. I got it figured out after a lot of trial and error. One of the big reasons I got this monitor was so that I could use a single usb-c cord for charging (Mac) and attaching to the monitor. Unfortunately, the monitor doesn’t provide enough power to actually charge the computer. It just dies much more slowly. I use it as my home office computer (graphic design) and it lasts for the whole work day, usually. Then I have to plug into the original charger at night. I didn’t think I would have to do that, so that was a little let down. Anyway, it’s a great monitor overall. Just has a few hiccups that can be worked through.

UPDATE: April 25, 2021: Running into problems with USB-C cables longer than the supplied LG 12 cable, I decided to try Apples cables, since Apple is well-know for making high quality products. First I tried Apples (thin) 1 meter cheaper USB-C Charge Cable. That cable did not work. Next I tried Apples (thick) 0.8 meter more expensive Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Cable. That one works fine. I noticed with all the USB-C cables I have tried, the thickness of the cables that work are much thicker than the cables that did not work. Another benefit I was not expecting is that with the good-working thick Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) cable, all of a sudden my Apple Watch began unlocking my Mac properly. Go figure that one out!! ============================================ This is a wonderful monitor. HOWEVER, if you want to use a USB-C to USB-C cable that is longer than the supplied 12 LG cable, you might not be able to do that: While the supplied 12 LG USB-C cable works fine with my Mac mini M1, I need a longer cable. I tried one of my 3 USB-C cables and it does not work. The Q&A here also shows at least 2 other buyers having the same problem. Thinking it might be a poor quality cable I ordered 2 x 3 Anker USB-C cables: they also did not work. I then tried another of my 3 USB=C cables and it worked. Unfortunately I do not know what brand it is, or where it came from. I just got off the phone with LG support. They could not provide me with a solution for obtaining a USB-C cable that is longer than their supplied 12 USB-C cable. (I am not interested in using an HDMI cable.) LG support repeated told me that any other 3 USB-C cable should work. But clearly not all of them do. I was surprised that even the Anker USB-C 3 cables did not work. LG support also repeated tried to tell me that a *12* monitor cable is the standard length. That, of course, is ridiculous. Its a shame I had to deduct 1 star due to this problem. YMMV Otherwise, again, this is a wonderful monitor.

After much research, I ended up buying this monitor graphic design. I watched a ton of videos and read so many reviews. Nothing seemed perfect...as what I really want is my old Apple Cinema 27 cinema display! (Ive been through 2 of those and both didnt work well with my new MacBook pro. The connection wasnt reliable and the screen would blackout. I got rid of both of them and decided I needed to move on.) This monitor was really the only one I could stomach from an aesthetic point of view, but I was worried because I read about some of the color issues in the reviews. I was looking to spend under $500. The Dells are highly rated, but they were more expensive and not as nice looking. Onward to my experience and addressing some of the issues I saw in the reviews: 1) Some reviewers said the stand is flimsy. Its not as great or solid as the mac stand, but its fine and sturdy enough. No issues here. 2) One reviewer mentioned that her display was tilted a bit and she couldnt get it straight. Mine was tilted a bit, but just put a little muscle into it and got it straight no problem. 3) The font on the display was way too large. I found a setting in systems preferences to make it smaller, looks normal and crisp now. 4) A few mentioned that the color is off, they are too bright and saturated, almost neon. I did experience this. In order to fix it, I did as some reviewers recommended and turned off the High Dynamic Range setting in the display preferences. 5) Also, It was confusing when I first plugged in the display. A menu associated with the display (so not controlled by my mac) was asking me to select ok. Without my cursor from the mac, I couldnt do this. That is when I discovered the important power switch and setting switch on the monitor under the LG logo. The controls on this switch are very clunky, but after spending about 15 minutes with it I could see where I can adjust the brightness and some other settings. 6) This monitor comes with speakers, but you cant control the sound from your macbook pro. Since Im using this at home for work, I was frustrated when I wanted to listen to a podcast and the sound came in through the display too loud. There is an adjustment with the settings under the LG logo on the display, but thats a hassle. So I went into system preferences on my Mac and changed the setting back to MacBook Pro Speakers, so now the sound is coming through my MacBook and I can easily adjust the sound. So if you are like me and using this for work/design, you might as well save some money and get the version without speakers. So the bottom line is it took about an hour to fiddle with settings until I got a good-looking image that matches my MacBook Pro. I just got the monitor today, so Ill add to this review if I come across any issues. (I dont add to this it means that I like the monitor and its working fine for my needs as a graphic designer.)

I bought this as a used-like new monitor for $380. It was in fine condition but had over 230hrs of total power on time and was missing a few cables and pieces. Amazon customer support helped replace what I needed. Buyer beware... Picture quality is good, not great. With a plain black screen up you can see uneven backlighting in the corners. Also, its a matte screen, so everything is a little fuzzy and the blacks are not as deep as a glossy screen, but some people might prefer it (I guess I missed the memo that glossy screens are no longer in vogue). Brightness is a pain to change! It takes 5 clicks on the LG joystick to navigate to the brightness setting and change it 1%. I think thats probably too fine of an adjustment. Maybe take a page from Apple and have brightness go from 0 to 16 instead of 0 to 100. Im using this with a 2017 macbook pro via HDMI.

I really struggled with the decision for what monitor to buy for my new Apple MacStudio computer, and was seriously considering spending another $2k on the Apple Studio display, but after reading ALOT of reviews I settled on this LG ultra fine 27 inch display and saved myself about $1500! It is a great display, plenty of brightness and clarity of color. From now on I’ll stick to Apple for my computers but there is no need to spend the extra money on their displays when these lower priced options are just as good!

Like a lot of people, I was trying to find the perfect 4k monitor with USB-C capability to have a display for my MacBook Air M1. This monitor is great because not only is the text sharp but it also charges your MacBook. This is easy to use and worked straight out of the box.

My old monitor was fading and having been pleased with previous LG products decided to give this a try and glad I did. Clean functional look and gives me more desk space. Picture is fantastic and colors look natural and also many simple adjustments for different uses. Plenty of inputs for several sources, I have three computers plugged in to it. Speakers are useful if you have none but I already had a desktop sound system which is much better. The small joystick control is a pleasure to use after years of the multi button systems that never felt natural. Some complained of the stand being cheap but I find it sufficient for what it is doing. Very satified with this purchase!!!

I bought this monitor for how versatile it would be in my setup. However, the main use is with my ps5. I had no desire to get an hdmi 2.1 4k tv as my display, so i settled for a 60hz 4k monitor. This one fit exactly what i was looking for. The 60hz is fine for the games i play, but maybe not for you. I hear hdmi 2.1 monitors will be released this year, so maybe wait on that if 60hz isnt enough for you. Now for the review. I am very picky about my visual and audio experience and this monitor lived up to my expectations. Out of the box, i really didnt like how the colors, brightness and sharpness looked. it just didnt have the pop of the LG 34gn850 despite being 4k and the 34gn850 being 1440p. Once i adjusted what i could with HDR on, i was a bit more satisfied, but still unimpressed. I then turned HDR off and everything changed. I messed with my settings and used the super resolution on high and that changed my whole perception. I was then very impressed. HDR just ruined the colors on ps5. They just didnt pop. The HDR is useless in my opinion and i wouldnt recommend using it. Super resolution has gotten a lot of hate from the reviews i read and maybe it is bad when used as a regular monitor, but as a gaming monitor, this option on high was perfect for me. I think it is worth getting the newer version that has the feature than an older monitor like the ul and uk if you are using it for gaming. Super resolution gets a 10/10 as a feature from me. The black levels are the main issue here. The blacks are almost grey no matter what settings you try. This doesnt bother me at all and is an issue with the 34gn850 as well. I think its just an ips monitor thing. I used an hp2511x tn panel before this and it had way better black levels, but also had way worse viewing angles. I guess its all up to preference when it comes to tn/ips/va but i think ips is still the best. The color accuracy and pop of the colors make ips the winner for me. The response time is fine. I havent done any technical analysis of it, but it doesnt feel any different than the tn panel i was using which was also 5ms. Just make sure you set freesync to extended and response time to faster in the settings. This monitor is great if you go through all the settings and tweak it to your liking. Colors stand out, super res is great. response time is good and the 4k is obviously the main selling point. The negatives are not enough to give it less than 5 stars for me, but i could see people having issues with black levels.

Upgrade to an LG UltraFine IPS 4K screen, delivering ultra HD resolution with supremely accurate colors, even when viewed off-angle. The 27-inch display offers versatility of USB Type C connectivity (60 Watt power delivery) plus the benefits of HDCP 2.2 compatibility, so it will seamlessly display 4K content from a variety of sources. Experience smooth gameplay with AMD FreeSync (used with supported video cards), virtually eliminating screen tearing and stuttering that occur as a result of the difference between a graphics card"s frame rate and monitor"s refresh rate. Dynamic Action Sync reduces input lag and elevates your gameplay, allowing you to respond to your opponents quickly. Keep visibility even in dark scenes—LG"s Black Stabilizer senses dark scenes and helps make it brighter so that you can find the enemies hiding and waiting to attack your player in the dark. *Software download required to enable OnScreen Control.
