I was running a DELL 2721DFG but just felt like no matter what I did the display was slow, even with overdrive cranked to max, with all the overshoot that caused the display seemed just slow, with artifacts and ghosting. I had always found TN panels to be faster, so with that in mind I grabbed a VG27BQ and I am so happy I did. My experience is on a system with a 5800X, and RTX 3080 running at 2100mhz, playing only Destiny 2, que the jokes about D2 players playing nothing else. Dont throw facts at me as if they are insults! Pros: Much faster than my Nano IPS screen based 2721DGF I was using. Zero ghosting save for insanely quick motions that were just a blur on the DELL If you track a single object as you pan that object stays clear as day. Its honestly amazing to see. MUCH better black levels then IPS can display- REAL SRGB mode that I use most of the time After a calibration with iDisplay Pro the colors are not bad. ELMB Sync works really well, there is some double imaging and a slight dark train on quick moving object or when panning fast, but overall clarity is amazing. I only play Destiny 2, but at least in D2 it works without issue with my framerate between 170 to 140, I could see it having issues below that frame rate though. ELMB Sync does, as others have said, kill the brightness of the screen. If you game in a room were you can turn down the lights its not issue, but if you share a room that is kept bright you might have a problem with it. Lots of options in the menu. I run the overdrive with ELMB sync off at 60, which is the stock setting. With ELMB sync on it uses some form of variable overdrive that works well. G-SYNC works great, without the issues that my 2721DGF had that required disabling and re enabling to fix. Cons: Colors are not as nice as my IPS screen was, but WAY better then my 5 year old Acer TN panel was. Viewing angles are bad compared to IPS, but if you are just gaming they with never effect you as you have to be quite a bit off angle to see them. My first monitor shipped to me had a single bad pixel on the VERY edge of the screen and it only showed when gaming with fast dark to light transitions. I returned it for a replacement that had zero bad pixels of any type. So keep that in mind and do a dead pixel check and use the screen during your return window. I really think the 1ms GTG that IPS screens show on box is so far form how they normally run that its just a lie at this point. This screen has true 1ms GTG, and 0.4ms in a best-case scenario. I even thing the way a IPS screen shows in testing is better than how they run when being gamed on. Keep in mind I am extremely sensitive to frame rate drops, but if you were in the place, I was a curious what a modern TN is like, I say pick a VG27BQ up, if you hate it, you can return it, but I have feeling you will love it like I do. Edit: I have noticed some G-Sync oddness where I need to disable G-Sync, restart and re-enable it or I get some screen tearing. Also reminder to go into Nvidia control center and set V-sync to Fast!

Right out of the box, extremely happy with this monitor. It was featured in a Linus Tech Tips episode recently, and I managed to find it for much less than the price I saw just now (~$800). Actual MSRP is in the 450$ range, so dont get ripped off if youre looking at this monitor as an option. It is no 800$ monitor, but by no means is it a slouch either. Assembly was silly easy. Attach base, plug in power, plug in HDMI or DP cable, and youre in business. Only gripe I have at this point is the IO ports on the back are a little close to the monitor backplate. I was originally going to use a Cable Matters DP cable that had locks on it, but the thicker plug on that one necessitated I use the cable that came with the monitor. It also was really difficult to get the cable to click into the monitor due to the same close tolerances. Finally got it in place, and the monitor fired right up. Ran the Heaven benchmark in order to tweak the settings to where I wanted them, and also see how the monitor performs. Initially, there was a bit of flickering. Opened up Windows Display settings and maxed the Hz at QHD, and it seemed to dramatically reduce it, but there was still a teeny bit of zig zagging in shadow borders. I found the OC option in the Monitors menu, and that immediately resolved the issue. I still followed up by maxing the Hz selection under both Windows Display options and Nvidia Control Panel, havent looked back. I was able to OC the monitor using Nvidia to 165(!)Hz, and have had zero flickering or stuttering. Color me impressed! I know the monitor is advertised to 155Hz, so being able to push it beyond that is a nice add on. The ELMB function is pretty amazing too! image is buttery smooth, and I can read text on windows while moving them around. I wouldnt say its crystal clear, but its definitely nice! IPS Panel looks amazing sitting next to my 4K IPS monitor as well, color between the two on default settings are very similiar, brightness is about the same as well. I expect for the money, the backlights will hold up better than the other monitor I purchased. If anything changes or this monitor quits, Ill update this review, but I think ASUS hit the nail on the head with this one. Very happy with the monitor! EDIT: Its 6/15/2022, and this monitor is still running strong. Absolutely no backlight loss, image is bright and crisp as always. Id imagine theres been some brightness loss as the monitor ages, but it isnt enough that I notice a change. Changed my GPU recently. Didnt expect any problems, and happily had zero issues getting the TUF Gaming to play nicely with my 3080Ti. I didnt even need to adjust the OSD settings. Plugged it in and BAM... Doom Eternal pegged at 165 Hz is one of the smoothest experiences I could imagine, and this monitor handles it with grace and aplomb. I can confidently assert this monitor is an amazing buy for the money, as long as youre paying MSRP range prices. 11/10 would recommend!

So I use this monitor for both console and PC gaming. On PC, it looks great. 165hz, 1440p, HDR, no problems whatsoever. My issue resides in using it for console gaming. I have both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The Xbox can use the full capabilities of the monitor (1440p, 120hz, etc.) However, the PS5 cannot. Since the PS5 has no 1440p support. You can either select 1080p or 4K (upscaled). You also CANNOT play games at 120hz on the PS5, which is unfortunate. Doesn’t matter if you switch the output to 1080p. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, for example, still has 120hz option disabled. Should’ve done my research ahead of time, since ASUS’ websites states that this monitor does support it. I blame Sony though, not ASUS.

I have five monitors on two computers in my office. The Asus VG27AQ1A is the only one with the color problem. Spent quite a while fiddling with the settings. No luck. Search on Google indicates that this is a common problem with this model. Just got an LG monitor same size and resolution that was $50 less, no problems whatsoever. My rating: meh. Better than punched cards. Worse than any other monitor that I have or have had over the past few decades.

Great HDR monitor. I have the 32 version. Running it with a Radeon 6800xt. Playing doom eternal and Far Cry games on this is a dream. My only gripe are the menu controls. There are big buttons on the back right side. It can be difficult just to get out of a setting to the point I just had to turn off the monitor and restart it. So menu navigation can be a pain. but overall best monitor Ive ever had.

Beautiful 2k picture quality. No studders, hiccups or interference. HDR can get a little bright like bloom on high settings but I actually like bright colorful pictures while gaming so works great for me

I want to see if Asus could possibly put the headset jack in a more inconvenient place. I know you can do it, Asus engineers, because you werent even trying here, and you managed to put it in whats at least the most inconvenient place on the unit. Or at least include an extension cable to at least make the headset hookup reachable, one that doesnt automatically shut off the HDMI audio, as it does now. Otherwise, hooking up the headset involves wrestling with the screen, and hoping I dont damage it. The HDMI audio here is otherwise a huge headache. The volume is too soft, although I have to say the clarity is excellent. I seem to understand more movie dialog with the lower sound. Its still bothersome if I wish to hear the soundtrack as well. To get the sound at the volume I desire, I have to use a 3rd-party app. That shouldnt be necessary. The other problem is that its HDMI sound conflicts with my motherboards onboard sound. This is in Ubuntu and Windows. Ive had to go into EUFI BIOS shut off the onboard completely. This gets to be a problem if I want to use my headset. I refer you to the first paragraph. Because Ive had to shut down my onboard, I cant plug the headset directly into the PC. I guess I could reassign the ports, but that will have to wait until I figure out how.

Sharp picture at 2k, and the 144hz means youre never feeling sluggish on frames whether you have a PC build or console. Ended up picking up 2 for a 2 screen set up, at least until I can justify the upgrade to a 4K monitor. While Ive never used it extensively, you also have a nice height adjustment depending on what desk/table youre working off of. For the price its honestly hard to beat.

the gaming experience is no doubt amazing on this item. from switching to 60fps to 120fps on console it certainly does its job very well, but the only thing that I was a little disappointed by was the fact that I couldnt run 120fps, while also running 1440p on my brand new xbox series s. maybe I set it up wrong, but when trying to run it it would never let me. never the less this item is amazing for a budget gaming monitor and would encourage any gamers trying to find a budget monitor to purchase this one. ps: if anyone finds a way to run 120fps and 1440p at the same time on the xbox series s, please let me know. much appreciated.
