Gaming (10/10): Coming from a 1080p/240hz monitor this one is incredible. The extra resolution makes games look great and the inclusion of ELMB sync significantly improves the perceivable difference between 240hz and 165hz. In fact, for games like CS GO there is a noticeable improvement in clarity and speed in which opponents appear from peeking for example. The response times are very fast and seem similar to other gaming monitors. For 60hz console gaming the response times are very similar to other gaming monitors as well. Photography (8/10): The monitor has great color fidelity out of the box in “racing mode” with a slight improvement after calibration. The extra resolution over 1080p and the screen size allow two photos to be viewed side-by-side easily.. That said, if photography is your primary use I would consider a 4k monitor with a higher sRGB standard. Office Use/ Drafting (10/10): Use this primarily by day for architectural drawings and writing and the linework, text, etc. is extremely sharp and crisp. Eye Strain (10/10): Between the resolution, high-refresh rate, ELMB, and “blue” filters you can look at this monitor 24/7 and not feel eye-strain. I have noticed a significant difference in perceivable eye-strain working a long day on my second monitor vs. this one. User Interface (9/10): Monitor uses a multi-direction joystick on the side that allows quick and easy access to all of the settings. Switching between computers is seamless with the settings being saved for each device. E.g. going from a computer calibrated for photography to a gaming computer. Unfortunately, the monitor’s headphone jack is in a very awkward space near the HDMI/DP ports.. I would recommend a 3.5mm extender or plugging in directly to your pc. Ergonomics (10/10): Monitor has all of the typical monitor adjustments and does them well. Speakers (3/10): Sound quality is less than stellar... If you get this for gaming use headphones, if not get external speakers.

Wooeked for 6 weeks. Cannot return to Amazon for replacement. Must package and return to ASUS for evaluation of problem, possible repair. Until then, he has no screen. Disappointed in Amazon. And I buy LOTS from them.

Everything about these monitors is approachable and just about as advertised! For gaming at 165HZ its super easy to overclock, and hasnt shown any visible tearing or hiccups on image quality when pushing those overclocked specs! Image seems accurate straight out of the box, and so Ive only made small adjustments to brightness and contrast on the displays. The monitor also comes with anti-glare layer, which prevents me from seeing any amount of light in the reflection of the monitor. Absolutely love it!

I already had the 27 1080p monitor from ASUS that had the same form factor, but I wanted a better resolution for eSports games (CS:GO, Overwatch, LoL, VALORANT). The screen looks sharp, the colors are bright, and everything looks great especially for a TN panel. Great response time with none of the ghost/smearing issues I had with an AOC VA gaming panel. Vertical viewing angles are abysmal, but thats to be expected from a TN panel. If you need better angles, look into getting the IPS version. However, if this is gonna be your front and center main monitor, you can probably save some money and just get the TN version (faster pixel response time too!) Do note that even though the package says 165hz, its only reachable with an overclock, which disables a lot of the other visual features like GSync/FreeSync and ELBM. Normally it reaches 144hz, which is fine for me since you couldnt pay me enough money to distinguish 144hz from 165hz correctly. However, it is a odd quirk of the packaging worth noting. Also, the panel is coated in this anti-glare solution that can make the screen look almost greasy if very bright, uniform colors are viewed. This is a mixed point. Since my monitor is right in front of a window, it helps me but it could be distracting if you play bright games in a dark environment.

I never be able to go to a smaller monitor for gaming. These are absolutely incredible, AMD Premium is insane and the viewing customization is perfect. I have a new gen RED team build with both 7000 series CPU and GPU, and the viewing expending is perfection. No screen tear, I see everything, and at scale!

I bought 2 of theses monitors as I prefer matching dual monitor setups. The main issue I have with these monitors is that ASUS did not include an option to turn off deep sleep when connected via displayport. What this means is that if you use windows to put your monitors to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity like me, Windows thinks they are disconnected from your machine. When you wake the monitors, windows detects 1 monitor at a time and all the open apps shift to 1 screen. This is very annoying and you have you to rearrange all the apps back to the second monitor. I dont understand why they left this feature off as so many consumers use more than 1 monitor. Even if you are only using 1 of these monitors and a second or third from another brand or even a different ASUS monitor the fact that windows see it going to sleep as disconnecting means you will have similar issues. For the price, they really should have made sure it had the ability to tun off Deep Sleep. For now I have turned off sleep mode and just make sure I shutdown the computer, but I know at some point Im going to walk away forget and come home to find they were on all day. The color calibration was not exactly the same out of the box for both monitors as you can see in the my picture one screen is brighter than the other and that was just a picture with phones camera that picked that up (though I admit I have not tried to replace the Displayport cables and this may fix that issue). Pros: Looks great and in a single monitor setup most will be happy Cons: Multi-monitor setup with sleep mode is a disaster. Brightness not uniform between 2 monitors.

I was eyeing two other monitors with similar spec and mainly picked this up cuz Amazon had it in stock and it was lower than MSRP. I also saw that it had pretty good reviews from sites I trusted. I have to say that Im glad I picked it up, Very clean design and minimalist. The only gaming aspect for the design is probably the base for the stand with some red. But the monitor itself is very simple and not crazy looking which I like. The bezel is also very slim. Not the thinnest out there but still much thinner than my older monitors. I also liked the clicky button for accessing the menu. SO MUCH BETTER. The quality really surprised me. The colors are pretty accurate right out of the box. I tested it with several pieces of media just to see and it was near perfect right from the factory which pleased me. Images are sharp and colorful and very accurate to the source. It saved me the trouble of having to calibrate it myself. My panel also doesnt have any backlight bleed at all. It has the usual IPS glow but no bleed whatsoever from all sides. I was pretty lucky because every other monitor I ever owned had some. Even my iPads would have a bit of bleed. Minor to major. I put on a black image and turned off the lights and its as uniform as they could be. I feel like I got a unicorn. Phew! Overall, very pleased with this monitor for all things gaming, streaming video and general web browsing. This is my first Asus monitor and Im a fan now. Definitely a good value especially compared to the others on the market.

Regardless of whether you have AMD or Nvidia (though AMD benefits the most out of this), this is a great monitor to have considering the price and specs. A 27 TN panel that supports 144Hz at 1440p with DisplayPort 1.2, TWO HDMI ports, and a Dual-Link DVI, as well as a built-in USB 3.0 hub with two ports easily makes this monitor a great utility monitor for gamers that do everything at their desk and only need or can only have one monitor. The OSD is pretty standard, with some nifty little features from Asus. My only gripe with the OSD is that the controls are on the side, which makes sense for a single monitor user, however since I have a multi-monitor setup and the MG278Q is in the center, it gets a little annoying try to reach the controls whenever I need to change my input from DisplayPort to HDMI-1. Wish they were still on the back but bottom, or a easier to access input change. In terms of performance, its high quality when response time is priority. The jump from a 60Hz to 144Hz was night and day, as well as the bump from 1080p to 1440p making games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive so much better to play. One disclaimer, is that I have FreeSync disabled since I prefer the running at 144Hz, however for the games that I dont care about having the higher frequency for, Ill turn it on and enjoy the tear-free experience. The stand is nice and sturdy, and it has a fairly small footprint on the desktop while being able to use the bases surface if needed. Easy to remove the monitor from stand if you prefer using the VESA mount, and even more bonus points for including screws pre-installed in the VESA holes. Bezel is fairly slim, but not as thin as the ROG Swift PG279Q. Do love the fact that the top of the monitor is flat and the back is flat near the top for easier webcam mounting, unlike my Asus VH238H that has a curved top. Color is pretty good on the sRGB profile. Wouldnt say its accurate, due to the fact that Ive yet to use an IPS monitor and dont have any proper tools to gauge the color accuracy, however for general gaming and media consumption, the colors are accurate enough with very little noticeable bias towards warm or cool temperatures. Would I buy another MG278Q or two for a replacement or triple monitor setup? Possibly. Would I still consider it, even if I was running an Nvidia card instead of my R9 290X? Definitely if I was on a budget. Do I regret getting the MG278Q instead of the ROG Swift PG279Q since I know Im going to go Nvidia on my next upgrade? Not at all, especially since this would still be an excellent auxiliary monitor.

Got this to replace an ultra wide LG monitor which broke while mounting it on a monitor stand. So far I like it, the picture is nice and clear and the performances are pretty good. Tried it with console and with computer games and it perform great. One caveat: be sure if you use windows, to go in the control panel and then set the output of the video card to the correct resolution (1440p, not 1080p), since if you set the monitor to a different resolution from the native one, the graphics will look quite bad. And you have to change the frequency of refresh by hand too; otherwise the monitor is used in 60Hz mode, which is quite bad. You can push it up to 144Hz refresh rate, and you will notice the difference immediately. As far as negatives; there are a couple: first of all the horrible Asus monitor interface; there are different buttons and not a dedicate button for switching port; you need to go in the menu to switch port (which is something you could do on the LG in a single touch), and there are no dedicated volume and mute options, which on my old LG would be performed by touching the nipple left and right for volume and down for mute the monitor. Sadly all Asus monitors use this very restrictive interface (I have 3 asus monitors of different price range and they all use the same interface). Last but not least, the ports are at an angle; not a big deal but if you try to reach them from the front; you have to get used to the fact that they are not facing down but at an angle.

If you only use this for gaming it will be fine, but for watching movies its horrible, every time there is a black background scene, that black looks white and thats pretty annoying.

Designed for intense fast-paced games. The Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQ is a 27” WQHD gaming IPS display with 1ms (MPRT) response time and blazing 165Hz refresh rate to give you super-smooth game play. The VG27AQ features G-SYNC compatibility and ELMB Sync technology to eliminate screen tearing and ghosting.
